The Embassy of Vietnam in Doha recently celebrated the 79th anniversary of the Vietnam National Day with a reception attended by various dignitaries, including Minister of Communications and Information Technology H E Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai and Director of Department of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs H E Ambassador Ibrahim Fakhroo. Ambassador of Vietnam to Qatar H E Nguyen Huy Hiep expressed appreciation for the strong friendship and partnership between Vietnam and Qatar. He commended Qatar for its significant development under the wise leadership of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and praised Qatar’s foreign policies that have enhanced its regional and global standing.

Hiep highlighted the strong relationship between Vietnam and Qatar, which spans three decades and is built on mutual trust and cooperation. Both countries regularly exchange delegations and support each other in international forums. The two-way trade volume between Vietnam and Qatar fluctuates between $400m to $500m annually. In 2023, various economic and cultural activities were organized to celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Hiep emphasized Vietnam’s commitment to further enhancing cooperation with Qatar in areas such as investment, trade, digital transformation, green energy, and the Halal industry for the mutual benefit of both nations.

The Ambassador discussed Vietnam’s goals for the future, including becoming a developed and high-income country by 2045, with a focus on ensuring prosperity, happiness, security, and safety for all its citizens. He also emphasized Vietnam’s determination to address global challenges and work towards green, sustainable, inclusive, and human-focused development. Hiep commemorated President Ho Chi Minh’s reading of the Declaration of Independence at Ba Dinh Square on September 2, 1945, which marked the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now known as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The reception in Doha highlighted the strong bond between Vietnam and Qatar, with both countries celebrating their long-standing friendship and cooperation. Ambassador Hiep expressed admiration for Qatar’s development under the leadership of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and praised the country’s foreign policies that have elevated its status regionally and globally. He underscored the shared commitment of Vietnam and Qatar to support each other in various international forums and their efforts to enhance bilateral trade and cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The Ambassador’s remarks also shed light on Vietnam’s ambitious vision for the future, aiming to become a developed and high-income country by 2045. He emphasized the importance of ensuring prosperity, security, and happiness for all Vietnamese citizens, as well as addressing global challenges through sustainable and inclusive development. Hiep highlighted the significant milestones in Vietnam’s history, including the Declaration of Independence read by President Ho Chi Minh in 1945, which marked the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

Overall, the event served as a platform to celebrate the enduring friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Qatar, while also showcasing Vietnam’s commitment to achieving its developmental goals and contributing to global issues. The strong ties between the two countries, built on trust and mutual respect, are set to further deepen as they collaborate on various initiatives, including trade, investment, and sustainable development. With a shared vision for a prosperous future, Vietnam and Qatar are poised to continue strengthening their partnership for the benefit of their people.
