The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) in Bahrain has announced a 50% reduction in issuance and renewal fees for domestic workers employed by Bahraini nationals aged 60 and above. The decision was made to support the elderly and reduce the financial burden associated with hiring household help. The fee reduction has been communicated to licensed employment agencies, and applies to all issuance and renewal fees for a single domestic worker for Bahrainis over 60 years old. The fee for a new one-year work permit is now BD75.5, while a two-year permit costs BD103. Renewal fees have also been reduced, with options for six-month and one-year permits priced at BD8.5 and BD32, respectively, and a two-year permit available for BD59. This initiative is expected to benefit a significant number of senior citizens in Bahrain, making caregiver hiring more financially feasible for families.

The LMRA’s decision aligns with the government’s dedication to supporting the well-being of senior citizens and ensuring they receive proper care and support. By lowering the cost of hiring caregivers, the government aims to make senior citizen care more accessible and affordable for families. The reduction in issuance and renewal fees for domestic workers will not only benefit the elderly but will also ease the financial burden on families responsible for their care.
