Doha, Qatar – Egypt faces a must-win situation today as they clash with Jordan at Al Bayt Stadium in a crucial match for advancement to the quarter-finals of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025. With Jordan already securing their spot, Egypt needs a victory to ensure their progression in the tournament. This Group C decider is set for a high-stakes battle, while UAE and Kuwait also vie for a qualifying chance in a concurrent match.

The match kicks off amidst a complex qualification scenario. Egypt currently trails Jordan in Group C with two points, while UAE and Kuwait each have one. A win for Egypt guarantees a place in the next round. However, a draw could also suffice if the UAE and Kuwait match ends in a tie.

Egypt’s Path to Quarter-Finals Hinges on Today’s Game

Egypt’s head coach, Helmy Toulan, acknowledged the difficulty of the task ahead. He emphasized the need for complete focus, both technically and mentally, to overcome a strong Jordanian side. Toulan expressed confidence in his squad’s ability to deliver a winning performance despite Jordan’s already qualified status.

According to Toulan, Jordan presents a formidable challenge across all areas of the pitch – defense, midfield, and attack. He stated that his team is prepared for a tough contest and is determined to secure the necessary result to advance in the FIFA tournament.

The situation is further complicated by the parallel match between UAE and Kuwait. A draw between these two teams would significantly benefit Egypt’s chances, even with a draw against Jordan. However, if Egypt loses, their qualification hopes would rest entirely on a UAE-Kuwait draw and a favorable goal difference comparison in a potential three-way tie.

Jordan Prepares for Match with Squad Rotation

Meanwhile, Jordan’s head coach, Jamal Salami, announced plans to rotate the squad, giving some players a rest after already securing qualification. Salami indicated his team remains focused on the group stage and isn’t prioritizing a specific opponent for the quarter-finals.

“We qualified as group leaders,” Salami said. “The opponent will be whoever comes. We will wait to see who qualifies and we will try to beat them.” This approach suggests Jordan intends to maintain a competitive edge while managing player fatigue.

UAE and Kuwait Battle for Survival

At Stadium 974, the UAE and Kuwait will engage in their own high-pressure encounter. UAE coach Cosmin Olaroiu expressed his desire to extend his team’s participation in the Arab Cup. He acknowledged the need for a strong performance and admitted that qualification depends on the outcome of both matches.

Olaroiu also reflected on the disappointment of the UAE’s failure to qualify for the World Cup, stating that both the staff and players were deeply affected. He cited mistakes and unfavorable decisions as contributing factors to their unsuccessful campaign, adding a layer of motivation to their current efforts. The team’s overall soccer performance has been under scrutiny.

Kuwait’s coach, Helio Sousa, anticipates a fiercely contested match against the UAE. He reaffirmed his team’s commitment to giving their all, highlighting that their qualification chances remain alive.

Sousa openly admitted that Kuwait needs a win and also hopes for a slip-up from Egypt against Jordan. He described the UAE as a strong team in good form but expressed confidence in Kuwait’s ability to compete until the final whistle, focusing on football strategy.

The outcome of both matches today will determine the final standings in Group C and the identities of the teams progressing to the quarter-finals. While Jordan’s place is secure, Egypt, UAE, and Kuwait are all battling for the remaining spot. The results and goal differences will be closely watched as the tournament progresses.

Following today’s matches, attention will turn to the confirmed quarter-final pairings. The exact schedule of the knockout stage will be released by FIFA, subject to logistical considerations and broadcasting arrangements. The uncertainties surrounding potential three-way ties underscore the importance of every goal scored in these final group stage encounters.
