The upcoming European Congress on family, organized by the ECR party in Dubrovnik from the 18th until the 20th of October, will focus on addressing issues related to family and demography, which have long been central to the conservatives’ political agenda. At a recent briefing held in Rome, the party’s Secretary General Antonio Giordano, alongside representatives of Brothers of Italy, explained the importance of these topics. Giordano emphasized that conservatives prioritize family values and are open to discussions on rights, with family always at the center. The event will bring together 300 delegates from around the world, including representatives from various right-wing forces, to discuss economic and technological challenges faced by families.

The ECR party’s mission is to strengthen ties among conservatives worldwide by promoting shared values and acting as a mediator among different parties. Giordano highlighted the importance of bringing together individuals from various political backgrounds when discussing issues related to families. He noted that members from different political parties, such as the EPP and Patriots for Europe, will come together at the event to engage in meaningful dialogue. The ECR aims to be a central platform for conversations between the right and the left, with a goal of moving towards a more inclusive dialogue in the future.

Family and the fight against the demographic crisis gripping Europe have been central themes for the ECR and FDI’s political agenda. Italian PM Giorgia Meloni and her government recently joined a conference in Rome to discuss ways to boost Italy’s birth rate, with Pope Francis also in attendance. Ylenja Lucaselli, a member of Brothers of Italy, emphasized the importance of addressing the demographic crisis to improve the country’s economy. Lucaselli highlighted that Italy’s birth rate is concerning and stressed the need for the government to prioritize this issue. Meloni’s government has already allocated over 16 billion euros to policies aimed at supporting families and boosting the birth rate in Italy.

The upcoming European Congress on family will facilitate discussions on economic challenges faced by families, as well as technological advancements that impact family dynamics. Giordano emphasized the importance of addressing the lack of dialogue within families, often replaced by social media interactions. By bringing together delegates from various right-wing forces and political parties, the ECR aims to create a space for meaningful conversations about family values and the demographic crisis gripping Europe. The event will serve as a platform for policymakers, economists, and representatives from different political backgrounds to engage in discussions that aim to address the challenges faced by families.
