The Arabian Travel Market held at the Dubai World Trade Centre in 2023 saw remarkable growth and higher spending across MICE business services and other industry sectors. The Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) announced that 76 large-scale exhibitions and events generated a total economic output of Dh18.28 billion, contributing significantly to Dubai’s GDP. These events also fostered over 69,000 jobs and generated Dh3.36 billion in disposable income, showcasing the positive impact of such large-scale events on the local economy.

The large-scale business events hosted by DWTC attracted 1.54 million attendees, with 46% being international participants, reflecting a 53% increase in foreign attendance year-on-year. This growth highlights Dubai’s growing relevance in the global business community and its position as a premier international MICE destination. The increase in international participation also led to a significant economic impact on Dubai’s GDP, with international participants spending an average of Dh10,313 per event, significantly higher than that of local participants.

In addition to the direct economic impact of these events, DWTC’s large-scale events also had a positive ripple effect on adjacent sectors. The revenue generated through expenditure in sectors like hotel accommodation, retail, air travel, and restaurants reached over Dh10.81 billion in 2023, showcasing the wide-ranging benefits of hosting such events. This economic boost in multiple sectors further solidifies Dubai’s position as a hub for global business and tourism.

The success of DWTC’s own events and exhibitions, such as GITEX Global and Gulfood, further highlights the center’s expertise in delivering world-class events that resonate with global audiences. These events generated Dh7.22 billion in economic output and Dh4.15 billion in GVA, showcasing the significant impact of DWTC’s events on the local economy. Moving forward, DWTC remains dedicated to shaping the future of Dubai’s business tourism and trade, ensuring that the city remains a front-runner in the global events and exhibitions landscape.

In conclusion, the impact of large-scale events hosted by DWTC on Dubai’s economy is undeniable, with significant contributions to GDP, job creation, and disposable income. The increase in international participation and spending, coupled with the boost to adjacent sectors, further solidifies Dubai’s position as a global business and MICE destination. DWTC’s commitment to delivering world-class events and exhibitions showcases the center’s expertise in driving economic growth and fostering collaboration in the business community. As Dubai continues to grow as a hub for international events, DWTC remains at the forefront of shaping the city’s future as a leading global events and exhibitions destination.
