Dr. Yaser Jabbar, a doctor from a Dubai hospital, is currently facing a review in the UK due to serious allegations of botched surgeries on children. As a result, he has been suspended from his workplace at the Clemenceau Medical Centre in the UAE. The hospital’s CEO, Dr. Alya Al Mazrouei, released a statement confirming the suspension and clarification that they are waiting for the relevant authorities’ decisions on the matter.

According to reports in the British media, Dr. Yaser has been accused of performing surgeries that resulted in several children having limbs of varying lengths, with one child even requiring an amputation. These outcomes could have been avoided if a different course of action had been taken. Dr. Yaser was also listed as practicing at Orthocure and Medcare Orthopaedics and Spine Hospital in Al Safa, with the latter clarifying that he was never employed by the group.

The Medcare Orthopedic and Spine Hospital released a statement stating that Dr. Yaser had never consulted any patients or performed surgeries at their facility. It was mentioned that he was an external consultant at Orthocure and partnered with them for the usage of surgical facilities. Khaleej Times is currently awaiting a comment from Orthocure regarding this matter. Dr. Yaser joined Orthocure just seven months ago and had been scheduled to speak at the 10th Annual MENA International Orthopaedic Congress, which is set to take place in Dubai, but his name has been removed from the speakers’ list.

A review is currently underway at the Great Ormond Street Hospital, where Dr. Yaser practiced from 2017 until late 2023, involving more than 700 cases of his patients. 39 cases have been examined so far, with 22 children experiencing varying degrees of harm. Allegations against Dr. Yaser were first raised in June 2022, leading to him being placed on a paid sabbatical leave for 11 months before resigning in September 2023. It remains unclear when he arrived in the UAE and if he has performed any surgeries there. The situation has raised concerns about the quality of medical care provided by professionals in the healthcare industry and the importance of stringent regulations and monitoring systems to protect patients’ safety and well-being.

The case of Dr. Yaser Jabbar highlights the significance of thorough investigations and reviews in cases of alleged medical malpractice to ensure accountability and justice for the affected individuals. The suspension of Dr. Yaser from his workplace in the UAE underscores the seriousness of the allegations and the hospital’s commitment to addressing them promptly. The involvement of multiple medical facilities where Dr. Yaser was listed as practicing raises questions about the oversight and credentialing process for healthcare professionals.

As the situation unfolds, it is essential to prioritize the well-being and safety of patients who may have been affected by the alleged botched surgeries. The response from the healthcare authorities in conducting a review of Dr. Yaser’s cases and taking appropriate action demonstrates a commitment to upholding standards of care and protecting patients from harm. Moving forward, it is crucial to learn from this incident and implement measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future to safeguard the integrity of the healthcare system and ensure the trust of the community in medical professionals.
