Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently completed traffic enhancements on Umm Suqeim Street by opening a new street that leads to Kings’ School. The new street, which runs 500 meters and consists of two lanes in each direction, connects the school’s entrances to a recently constructed detour in the area. This development has optimized the entry and exit of vehicles to the school and has reduced traffic congestion by up to 40% during peak hours.

These improvements are part of RTA’s quick traffic improvement plan for 2024, highlighting a commitment to enhancing the road network, easing traffic flow, and increasing road capacity to accommodate Dubai’s sustainable growth. The enhancements also aim to improve traffic safety standards for all road users, particularly in school transportation and among parents. This project is part of the Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project, spanning 4.6 km from the Al Khail Road intersection to the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road intersection. The project enhances connectivity among four major traffic corridors in Dubai and increases the street’s capacity by 30%.

According to Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at the Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA, the recent improvements also include the allocation of 200 temporary parking slots to serve school-goers, including teachers and parents, for the 2024-2025 academic year. This measure ensures orderly parking and prevents random parking, which can lead to congestion and wasted time during vehicle entry and exit in the area. Ultimately, these enhancements uphold the highest traffic safety standards and aim to maximize public satisfaction, positioning Dubai as the best city for living in the world.

The Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project aims to improve connectivity among key traffic corridors in Dubai, including Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road. As a result, the street’s capacity will increase by 30%, accommodating up to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions. These developments are part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to enhance the road infrastructure in Dubai and address traffic congestion issues, particularly during peak hours.

Through these enhancements, RTA is not only expanding the road capacity and improving traffic flow but also prioritizing safety for all road users, especially in school transportation. By providing additional parking spaces for school-goers, teachers, and parents, RTA aims to create a safer and more efficient environment for school-related traffic. These efforts contribute to Dubai’s reputation as a global city with high standards of living and transportation infrastructure that meets the needs of its residents and visitors.
