The sixth Dubai Labour Sports Tournament is set to kick off on September 15, with an expansion in the number of sports disciplines to 12. This year’s event will also witness an increase in tournaments dedicated to working women, including badminton, yoga, and the thrash ball championship. Winners of each tournament will advance to the Champions League. The tournament, themed ‘Making them happy is our goal,’ expects participation from more than 46,000 male and female workers from 270 companies. The event, coordinated by the Dubai Sports Council, will run until February 23, 2025, with various sporting events taking place in labor housing sites in Dubai.

The Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council, Saeed Hareb, emphasized the importance of the Dubai Labour Sports Tournament in providing opportunities for everyone to engage in sports. The event aims to promote health, happiness, activity, and productivity among workers, contributing to sustainability and progress. Various sporting events tailored to different nationalities will be included in the competition program to ensure full participation with enthusiasm and happiness. The tournament is a joint initiative by the Dubai Sports Council and the Permanent Committee of Labour Affairs, aimed at enhancing the well-being of workers in Dubai.

Senior officials highlighted the significance of workers in the development process and stressed their importance in the country’s message and strategy. The Dubai Labour Sports Tournament strives to make Dubai the best place to work and live in by promoting worker happiness and well-being. The tournament will offer a wide variety of sporting events like football, volleyball, and cricket held at different locations in labor housing sites. The event is expected to draw massive participation from male and female workers, fostering a sense of community, camaraderie, and skill development among participants.

The Dubai Labour Sports Tournament holds special significance for workers like Mohammed Sohail Asghar and Shuaib Khan, who find joy and community in participating in the event. Mohamad, a 36-year-old worker at Hotpack, eagerly awaits the tournament as a break from routine, showcasing his skills in cricket. Similarly, Shuaib, a football enthusiast from India, looks forward to playing football and believes that these tournaments contribute to overall happiness and health. Nalanta D’Silva, a former hockey player from Sri Lanka, actively engages in various sports activities, demonstrating a passion for staying active and connected to the sporting world.

The Dubai Labour Sports Tournament is a platform for workers to engage in sports, foster community spirit, and promote health and happiness. The event aims to uplift worker morale, provide a break from routine, and offer an opportunity for workers to showcase their skills and passion for sports. The tournament’s expansion to include more sports disciplines and opportunities for working women reflects the organizers’ commitment to inclusivity and diversity. With the support of key officials, the event is set to make a positive impact on worker well-being, happiness, and overall satisfaction in Dubai.
