Tanisha Crasto, a Dubai-born badminton player, is living out her dream of representing India at the Olympics. Her childhood friend Sydelle Varella flew in from London to cheer her on at the Paris Olympics. The two friends grew up together in Bur Dubai, sharing many memories and dreams, one of which was Tanisha’s desire to play at the Olympics. Despite geographical distances and busy schedules, their friendship remained strong, and Sydelle made it a point to be there for Tanisha’s big moment.

The Crasto family, including Tanisha’s parents and younger brother, were also present at the event to support her. Although Tanisha and her partner, Ashwini Ponnappa, lost their first match in the women’s doubles event, the support from her loved ones and close friend Sydelle remained unwavering. Sydelle expressed her overwhelming joy at witnessing Tanisha’s hard work and dedication pay off, as she saw her childhood friend achieve her childhood dream of competing at the Olympics.

Sydelle recalled how Tanisha used to talk about playing at the Olympics even before they met, and how she always promised to be there to watch her play. Despite the challenges of starting a new internship, Sydelle knew she had to be in Paris to support Tanisha. The bond between the two friends and their families was evident as they reunited after six years and shared the special moment of Tanisha’s Olympic debut.

Tanisha’s mother, Tulip, expressed her joy at seeing Sydelle and her brother attend the event, reminiscing about their shared past in the same building and school in Dubai. The presence of friends and family made Tanisha’s Olympic journey even more memorable and meaningful. Tanisha and Sydelle’s friendship serves as a reminder of the importance of support and encouragement, both on and off the court, as athletes pursue their dreams and goals.
