The annual national influenza campaign in the UAE officially launched on September 9th, offering residents in Dubai and the Northern Emirates the opportunity to receive the flu vaccine for as low as Dh50. The efficacy of the flu vaccine typically lasts for around six to seven months, providing protection during the upcoming flu season. Dr. Shamsa Majid Lootah, Director of the Public Health Department at Emirates Health Services, emphasized the importance of getting vaccinated, especially for high-risk groups such as pregnant women, children aged 6 months to 5 years, individuals with chronic diseases, and People of Determination.

Emirates Health Services is offering the flu vaccine for a reasonable price of Dh50 at their facilities, with no extra charges for residents. Nationals can receive the vaccine for free, making it accessible to everyone in the community. Dr. Lootah highlighted the safety of the vaccine, which has been administered for over 60 years, and its ability to protect not only the individual but also their family members. The campaign aims to encourage residents to get vaccinated against influenza, equip healthcare professionals with global prevention strategies, and expand vaccine coverage for key groups, including citizens, residents, and healthcare workers.

The influenza vaccination campaign in the UAE targets all population segments, with a special emphasis on high-risk individuals such as the elderly, pregnant women, and those with chronic health conditions. The initiative aims to ensure a safer winter by starting the vaccination drive in October when the flu season typically begins. While the flu vaccine may not guarantee complete immunity, it significantly reduces the severity of the illness if contracted. Partnerships with Emirates Health Services, Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, the Department of Health Abu Dhabi, and the Dubai Health Authority are instrumental in facilitating the vaccination campaign and reaching a wide range of individuals across the UAE.

In conclusion, the annual national influenza campaign in the UAE provides an opportunity for residents to receive the flu vaccine at an affordable cost, with a special focus on high-risk groups. The initiative aims to promote vaccination against influenza, protect individuals from severe flu complications, and ensure a safer winter season in the country. By expanding vaccine coverage and equipping healthcare professionals with the latest prevention strategies, the UAE is taking proactive measures to combat the flu and promote community health and well-being. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the vaccination drive to protect themselves and their families during the upcoming flu season.
