Dubai has undergone significant development over the years, but there are still memories of the past that are cherished by many. Recalling the simpler times on Rolla Road, the author reminisces about buying bread from Citi Mart and enjoying hot garlic shawarmas for less than Dh3. The sand pits that existed before the buildings were constructed served as playgrounds for children, where they played cricket with makeshift equipment and soldotaped tennis balls to resemble red cricket balls. The author vividly recalls the Spinneys store next to Al Ain Centre, with its hotdog counter offering charred franks in fresh rolls lathered with mustard.

Exploring the nostalgic memories further, the author reflects on spending time at an audio-video store that rented Friends seasons and showcased the latest music albums. The department store’s quiet aisles, where fashion magazines were found, provided a peaceful escape for the author and a friend. Khaleej Centre held a special place in the author’s heart, with memories of McDonald’s, a toy store, and a Pen Corner. The opening of KFC in the area brought the tantalizing aroma of fried chicken, while the Hallmark shop with board games and toys left a lasting impression.

The journey down memory lane continues with the author recalling visits to Network Games in Khaleej Centre and Atrium Centre, where gaming enthusiasts gathered to play and socialize. The strict rules enforced by the cafe manager ensured a clean and orderly environment for gaming enthusiasts. Skateboarding in the Golden Sands Area provided a sense of freedom and adventure, as skaterboys attempted risky tricks and maneuvers on makeshift ramps and rails. The author fondly remembers the skating culture and the camaraderie shared among fellow skaters.

The author’s reminiscence shifts to the perfect skate spot near the new Spinneys store next to Burjuman, where they spent hours perfecting their skateboarding skills. Little Caesars’ delicious pizza was a favorite indulgence for the author and a friend, who tackled the stairs outside the restaurant with determination. The author acknowledges the impact of personal responsibility on the closure of Little Caesars, due to the popularity of the stairs among skateboarders. Despite the challenges faced, the author reflects on the determination and passion that drove them to pursue their skateboarding goals.

The exploration of childhood memories extends to the Bur Dubai Jumbo store’s gaming section, where playing Tekken 5 brought joy and excitement. Visiting the Sikh temple in Meena Bazaar for daily prayers during exams provided a sense of peace and solace for the author. The author concludes by emphasizing the importance of preserving memories through writing, capturing moments of nostalgia and reflection. The purpose of reminiscing is not just entertainment but also a way to preserve a bygone era and evoke the essence of a time gone by. The author hopes to transport readers back to a simpler time and evoke a sense of nostalgia through their recollections.
