Are you unsure of how much money to keep aside for utilities every month? The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (Dewa) tariff calculator can help you estimate your electricity and water costs based on your consumption and tariff type. You can access this service through the official website or smart application. To use the calculator, follow these steps: Visit the Dewa website or app, click on the menu, navigate to ‘Billing’ under the consumer section, scroll and click on ‘Tariff calculator’, select the tariff type (commercial, industrial, or residential), enter the amount of kilowatt hours for electricity, and enter the amount of imperial gallons for water.

To calculate your usage, measure your water consumption in imperial gallons (IG) and electricity consumption in kilowatt hours (kWh). An imperial gallon is equivalent to approximately 4.5 liters, and you can estimate your consumption by adding up the quantity used in daily activities that require water. A kilowatt-hour is the energy used by a 1-kilowatt appliance running for an hour. You can calculate the kWh by knowing the wattage of your appliances and the approximate time they run for.

If you feel that your electricity bills are higher than your actual consumption, Dewa offers a service to verify your consumption levels. This service allows you to check if your meters are functioning properly and giving accurate readings. To request consumption verification, visit the Dewa website or smart app, go to the main menu, navigate to ‘Consumption Management’, and select ‘Request for consumption verification – electricity/water’. You can track your request through SMS or email and choose to verify the consumption yourself, call a Dewa agent, or schedule an onsite visit by the Dewa team.

When verifying consumption levels, you can do it for free by yourself or by scheduling a call with a Dewa agent. However, if you opt for an onsite visit, there will be a service fee of Dh30 or Dh75, depending on the meter type, if the meter is not faulty. For accuracy verification of the water meter, it may be tested in a DEWA lab, and a new meter will be installed for service continuity if necessary.
