Dubai International (DXB) airport has revised its forecast for 2024 to 91 million passengers, surpassing its previous record of 89.1 million in 2018. This growth is attributed to the strong aviation sector and the addition of new destinations by home carriers Emirates and flydubai. CEO Paul Griffiths mentioned that the airport saw impressive growth in the first quarter of the year, with a record number of passengers passing through.

In the first quarter of 2024, Dubai International had its busiest quarter in history, with 23 million passengers passing through its terminals. This marked an 8.4% increase compared to the same period last year. This surge in passenger numbers highlights DXB’s appeal to major markets and its contribution to Dubai’s status as an international destination for tourism and trade. The total passenger traffic for the quarter reached over 23 million, with January recording the highest traffic.

Dubai International plays a significant role in Dubai’s economy and tourism sector. The airport supports the city’s economic growth and tourism industry, with a 3.3% increase in real GDP valued at approximately Dh307.9 billion. With connections to 256 destinations across 102 countries through 90 international carriers, DXB strengthens Dubai’s position as a global business and logistics hub. The efficient handling of increasing passenger traffic and high cargo volumes supports the Emirate’s diversified economy.

India remained the top destination country for Dubai International, with 3.1 million passengers visiting, followed by Saudi Arabia, the UK, and Pakistan. Other significant contributors include the US, Russia, and Germany. Top cities by passenger numbers include London, Riyadh, and Jeddah. DXB saw a total of 109,238 flight movements in the first quarter, with load factors reaching 79.1%. The airport efficiently managed 26.8 million bags through its baggage system during the quarter, showcasing its commitment to seamless travel experiences.

Overall, Dubai International Airport is experiencing significant growth in 2024, with a revised forecast of 91 million passengers. This growth is attributed to the strong aviation sector and the addition of new destinations by home carriers Emirates and flydubai. Dubai International continues to play a vital role in Dubai’s economy, supporting its economic growth and tourism industry. With its extensive network of destinations and efficient operations, DXB strengthens Dubai’s position as a global business and logistics hub. This growth trajectory is expected to continue throughout the year, surpassing previous traffic records and solidifying its status as a key player in the aviation industry.
