The Dubai Metro is set to celebrate its 15th anniversary, marking 15 years since the iconic driverless train first inaugurated on September 9, 2009. As a part of the festivities, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that ‘Metro babies’ born on the same date can avail of an academic sponsorship to pursue higher education. This initiative aims to commemorate those individuals who share a special connection with the Metro’s inception date.

To be eligible for the academic sponsorship, the Metro baby must be a UAE National, born on September 9, 2009, and possess a cumulative GPA of over 90 percent. The RTA is offering this unique opportunity to support and encourage the educational pursuits of individuals who were born on the milestone date of the Dubai Metro’s launch.

In addition to the academic sponsorship, Metro babies born between 2009 and 2023 are invited to a special celebration hosted by Legoland Dubai on September 21, 2024. This event will provide an opportunity for these individuals to come together and commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Dubai Metro in a fun and festive setting.

As part of the celebrations, residents of the UAE can enjoy a series of musical performances at Metro stations from September 21 to 27. These performances will feature both Emirati and international musicians, adding a cultural and entertaining element to the anniversary festivities. Additionally, 5,000 winners will receive discount Nol cards by finding a special code on the sticks of limited-edition Metro-shaped ice cream.

Furthermore, exclusive Metro-related souvenirs, limited-edition post stamps, and special Nol cards with a design by Lego Dubai will also be issued as part of the 15th-anniversary celebrations. These items serve as collectibles and memorabilia to mark this significant milestone in the history of the Dubai Metro. The various events and initiatives planned for the anniversary aim to engage the community and recognize the impact of the Metro on the city’s transportation infrastructure.

In conclusion, the Dubai Metro’s upcoming 15th-anniversary celebrations offer an opportunity to reflect on the milestones achieved since its inception in 2009. From academic sponsorships for Metro babies to musical performances and exclusive merchandise, the festivities aim to engage and celebrate the community’s involvement in the success of the Metro. As a symbol of innovation and progress in transportation, the Dubai Metro continues to play a significant role in the city’s development and connectivity.
