Dubai recently announced the development of a floating bridge that will link the two sides of Al Mamzar Beach, making it the first of its kind in the city. The bridge is designed to allow visitors to walk over the water surface without getting wet, providing a unique experience at the beach. In addition to the floating bridge, the urban planning committee awarded contracts to develop Al Mamzar and Jumeirah 1 beaches. The Dh355-million project aims to enhance the beaches and ensure the safety of users while partially closing the areas for development.

The project will cover a 4.3km stretch of Al Mamzar beach and a 1.4km stretch in Jumeirah 1, with an expected completion time of 18 months. The beaches will be elevated to improve their resilience to climate change, using over half a million cubic meters of beach sand for this purpose. In addition to the floating bridge, the committee shared a video showing multiple floating platforms and decks connected to the shore via small bridges, some of which will have eateries for visitors to enjoy.

Authorities in Dubai also announced the opening of Deira’s first night beach, which will be accessible 24/7. This initiative aligns with the city’s efforts to provide more public beach spaces for residents and tourists to enjoy. The beaches in Al Mamzar and Jumeirah 1 will feature a total of 11km of bicycle and running tracks, a 5km walkway surrounded by trees, areas for barbecues, fitness activities, children’s games, beach rest houses, and seasonal event spaces, catering to a variety of interests.

The beaches will also offer amenities such as automatic irrigation systems to keep the greenery intact, 1,400 car parking spots, safety deposit boxes, WiFi, electronic screens, beach rescue services, and security cameras linked to central control rooms. Additionally, there will be 50 investment opportunities available, including water activities leasing, outlets, commercial kiosks, restaurants, advertising spaces, beach seating, and umbrellas. These initiatives aim to attract more visitors to the public beaches and enhance their overall experience.

Last year, Dubai announced plans to expand its coastline by 400% to provide residents and tourists access to 105km of public beaches, significantly increasing the current 21km available. The city currently has eight public beaches, including Khor Al Mamzar, Al Mamzar Corniche, Jumeirah 1, Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3, Umm Suqeim 1, Umm Suqeim 2, and Jebel Ali. Some of these beaches were revamped in 2023 to improve the infrastructure and facilities for visitors. With ongoing projects and future developments, Dubai continues to establish itself as a premier beach destination for locals and tourists alike.
