The iconic Dubai Creek walls are set to undergo a major repair and rebuilding project to ensure the safety of maritime traffic and commercial operations. The project, costing Dh112 million, will be implemented in two phases, covering a 2.1km stretch along the Deira side and a 2.3km length on the Bur Dubai side. The installation of 200 anchors along the creek will enhance navigation services and facilities. This initiative aims to prevent flooding during harsh weather conditions and minimize disruptions to commercial traffic.

The Dubai Creek, serving as an artery at the heart of Dubai, facilitates the passage of over 13,000 ships annually and plays a key role in fostering the economic and social prosperity of the emirate. The Director General of Dubai Municipality, Dawoud Al Hajri, emphasized the importance of the creek in supporting commercial dealings with neighboring markets and contributing to Dubai’s economic growth. The municipality is committed to transforming Dubai’s coastal facilities and infrastructure to solidify its position as a global tourism hub and enhance its economic prosperity.

The comprehensive work involved in the project includes the restoration of the 2.1km Deira pier, with repairs and replacements of damaged sections of the concrete wall. These improvements, reaching a depth of 8 meters and increasing the height to 3 meters, will ensure safe docking for ships. Dubai Creek continues to maintain its historical, commercial, and economic significance despite extensive developments in the emirate. As a vital maritime channel marking Dubai’s trade interactions with the world, the creek remains a significant tourist hub for residents, visitors, and tourists.

The project is part of Dubai Municipality’s efforts to mitigate the risks posed by climate change and rising sea levels. Technical studies have been conducted to enhance the efficiency of marine docks and preserve the stability of supporting walls, adhering to global standards. The implementation of these measures will safeguard against increased flooding during seasonal weather conditions and ensure the safety and security of maritime traffic within Dubai Creek. The goal is to enhance the overall infrastructure of the creek and contribute to the economic and commercial prosperity of the emirate.
