Doha, Qatar – The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) has successfully completed a mid-cycle review for its International Quality Review (IQR) institutional accreditation, as confirmed by the UK’s Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA). The review validates the Institute’s ongoing adherence to globally recognized academic standards. This positive assessment reinforces DI’s position as a leading graduate institution in the Middle East and its commitment to providing high-quality education and research.

The QAA, an independent body responsible for safeguarding the quality and standards of UK higher education, recommended extending the validity of DI’s accreditation through 2027. The review process involved a comprehensive self-assessment by the Institute, followed by a thorough on-site visit by a QAA review team in September 2025, according to the Qatar News Agency (QNA).

Strengthening Academic Quality: Doha Institute’s Accreditation Success

Institutional accreditation is a crucial process for higher education institutions, signifying a commitment to continuous improvement and accountability. It assures students, faculty, and stakeholders that the institution meets established quality benchmarks. The Doha Institute initially received its international accreditation in 2022, and this mid-cycle review assesses progress made since then.

The QAA report specifically praised DI’s advancements in both curriculum development and institutional policies. Reviewers noted improvements in the overall student experience, encompassing both academic and extracurricular activities. This focus on holistic student development is a key component of the Institute’s strategic plan.

Key Findings of the Review

One of the most significant strengths highlighted by the QAA was DI’s remarkably low student-to-faculty ratio of 6:1. This allows for personalized attention and fosters a dynamic learning environment centered on direct interaction between students and professors. Such a ratio is considered highly favorable compared to regional averages.

The report also commended DI’s dedication to inclusivity and expanding access to higher education. This includes providing support for students from diverse backgrounds, including those from conflict-affected regions and individuals with special needs. The Institute’s efforts aim to empower students and enhance their opportunities for professional advancement.

Furthermore, the QAA acknowledged DI’s investment in research, noting the support provided to faculty and students through project funding, publication assistance, and conference participation. The Institute’s “Blue” course evaluation system, which provides real-time feedback, was also recognized for its contribution to enhancing teaching quality and program design. This system allows for agile adjustments to course content and delivery based on student input.

Dr. Abdelwahab El-Affendi, President of the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, expressed his pride in the achievement, stating that it demonstrates the Institute’s unwavering commitment to quality enhancement in learning, research, and student services. Hala Sheikh Alsouk, Director of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Quality Assurance, added that the outcome reflects years of systematic effort and a strategic focus on evidence-based practices.

The successful completion of this review is particularly noteworthy given the evolving landscape of higher education in Qatar and the broader region. Qatar has been actively investing in its education sector to diversify its economy and build a knowledge-based society. This accreditation demonstrates DI’s alignment with these national goals and its ability to compete on an international stage.

Looking ahead, the Doha Institute will continue to implement its strategic plan, focusing on further strengthening its academic programs, research capabilities, and student support services. The next comprehensive review by the QAA is scheduled for 2027, at which time the Institute will seek full renewal of its international accreditation. The Institute will also be monitoring evolving international standards in quality assurance to ensure its continued compliance and leadership in the field.
