The Doha Forum recently participated in the United Nations Civil Society Conference in Nairobi, Kenya, where Director General Maha Al Kuwari took part in a workshop focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) and cyber technology governance. The discussions centered on the use of AI and cyber technology as tools to address global and local problems, with a specific focus on the outcomes outlined in the Doha Forum’s “Future of International Cooperation Report 2023.” Issues such as improving global governance of AI and cyber technologies, while also considering the risks and opportunities associated with these technologies, were addressed during the workshop.

In a statement, Maha Al Kuwari emphasized the importance of the Doha Forum’s 2023 report, which examines the effective use of AI and cyber technologies in solving global and regional problems. She highlighted the report’s key principles of safety, sustainability, and inclusion, emphasizing the necessity for all countries and organizations to prioritize these aspects. Al Kuwari also stressed the need to establish a framework for global collective action through potential partnerships among stakeholders to address the challenges posed by AI and cyber technologies.

The Doha Forum, scheduled for December 7-8, 2024, regularly participates in conferences and discussions worldwide throughout the year. The forum focuses on various global issues under the themes of Diplomacy, Dialogue, and Diversity. The involvement of the Doha Forum in events such as the United Nations Civil Society Conference reflects its commitment to fostering dialogue and cooperation on important issues such as AI and cyber technology governance.

The workshop in Nairobi highlighted the potential benefits of AI and cyber technologies in addressing global challenges, while also acknowledging the risks and challenges associated with their use. Participants discussed ways to improve global governance of these technologies to maximize opportunities for countries while mitigating risks. The Doha Forum’s emphasis on safety, sustainability, and inclusion underscores the importance of addressing the ethical and social implications of AI and cyber technology in a global context.

Al Kuwari’s participation in the workshop demonstrates the Doha Forum’s dedication to promoting international cooperation and dialogue on pressing issues such as AI and cyber technology governance. By collaborating with other stakeholders and advocating for a framework for global collective action, the forum aims to address the complex challenges posed by these technologies while maximizing their potential benefits. The upcoming Doha Forum in 2024 will provide a platform for further discussions on these issues and highlight the importance of diplomacy, dialogue, and diversity in shaping international relations.
