Ektashif: Morocco is a vibrant showcase of Qatari artistic talent inspired by a recent cultural journey through Morocco. The exhibition, presented at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) as part of the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture, features work by Qatari artists and designers who recently traveled to Marrakesh. These artists drew inspiration from Morocco’s rich cultural heritage and Islamic architecture to create pieces that capture the spirit and beauty of the country. The exhibition will feature 36 pieces across diverse disciplines, including fashion, jewelry, calligraphy, photography, and more.

One of the highlights of the exhibition includes a remarkable gown by designer Maryam Al Mutaweh, jewelry by Hamad Al Mohammed, calligraphy drawing by Fatima Al Sharshani, photography by Abdulhadi Al Marri, fashion designs by Dana Al Mulla, and a decorative wooden door inspired by Zouaq art by artist Aljazi Almaadeed. Noora Al Meadadi, Head of the Arts Programs Section at the Museum of Islamic Art, expressed the importance of the Years of Culture initiative in building connections between Qatar and its partners and promoting cultural exchange.

During their journey to Morocco in April 2024, the artists explored historical monuments in Marrakesh, such as the “Ben Youssef Madrasa,” the “Bahia Palace,” the “Saadian Tombs,” “Dar el-Bacha,” and “Jardin Majorelle.” They participated in workshops to learn traditional Moroccan arts, including design, geometry, biomorphic drawing, and traditional Moroccan mosaic techniques. Ektashif: Morocco showcases the creativity that emerges when artists are immersed in new environments, offering visitors an opportunity to explore Morocco’s artistic legacy through the eyes of Qatari talent.

The exhibition serves as a visualisation of cross-cultural exchange, deepening appreciation of both Qatari and Moroccan cultural heritage. It highlights the profound connections forged through the artists’ journey and showcases their unique interpretations of the Moroccan experience. Through their art, the artists aim to capture the inspiration they found in Morocco’s rich Islamic heritage and architecture, creating a collection that reflects the beauty and spirit of the country.

Ektashif: Morocco is a platform for dialogue and understanding across cultures and communities, fostering connections between Qatar and its partners. The exhibition invites visitors to immerse themselves in the vibrant artistic expressions of Qatari talent inspired by their journey through Morocco. It offers a glimpse into the intricate designs, fascinating textures, and unique perspectives that emerged from the artists’ exploration of Morocco’s cultural heritage, inviting viewers to appreciate the beauty and diversity of both Qatari and Moroccan artistry.

Overall, Ektashif: Morocco is a celebration of creativity, cultural exchange, and artistic discovery. It showcases the talent and vision of Qatari artists who were inspired by the rich cultural heritage and Islamic architecture of Morocco during their journey. The exhibition invites visitors to experience the beauty and spirit of Morocco through the eyes of these talented artists, deepening their understanding and appreciation of both Qatari and Moroccan cultural traditions.
