Director of the General Corporation for Overseas Operating(GCO) highlights the success of the first Web Summit Qatar

A Qatari delegation, led by Government Communications Office (GCO) Director and Chairman of the Web Summit Qatar Organizing Committee, H E Sheikh Jassim bin Mansour bin Jabor Al Thani, recently visited the Web Summit headquarters in Dublin, Ireland. The delegation, including representatives from the GCO, the Ministry of Interior (MoI), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Permanent Committee for Organizing Conferences, and Qatar Tourism, reviewed the success of Qatar’s inaugural edition of the Web Summit and strategized a roadmap for future editions to be hosted by Qatar until 2028.

During their visit, Sheikh Jassim bin Mansour Al Thani and Web Summit CEO, Paddy Cosgrave, engaged in a fireside chat. They discussed the remarkable global debut of the Web Summit Qatar in February. Sheikh Jassim bin Mansour Al Thani expressed that the event symbolizes Qatar’s aspirations to become a leading global center for technology and innovation. He highlighted the country’s strategic location and significant investments in digital infrastructure, which attract entrepreneurs, investors, and business leaders from around the world, boosting Qatar’s digital environment and technology landscape.

Cosgrave emphasized the important role that startups play at Web Summit events, revealing plans to increase their participation at Web Summit Qatar 2025 by 50 percent. He noted that Web Summit Qatar made a lasting impression on attendees and was the first-year event with the largest number of startups participating worldwide. The Web Summit is expected to contribute to advancing economic growth in Qatar, improving the startup environment and entrepreneurship sector, developing human competencies, and solidifying the country’s position in the global technological scene.

The collaboration between the Qatari delegation and the Web Summit headquarters underscores the importance of fostering innovation and technology in Qatar. By hosting future editions of the Web Summit, Qatar aims to showcase its capabilities as a global leader in the tech industry. The discussions held during the visit will help shape the direction of upcoming events and ensure that they continue to attract top talent and drive technological advancements in the region.
