The Dhofar Governorate in Oman is gearing up for the launch of the Khareef Dhofar 2024 activities, working in partnership with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism to boost the upcoming tourism season. To promote these activities, Dhofar Municipality participated in the Arabian Travel Market 2024 exhibition in Dubai, UAE from May 6 to 9. The Khareef Dhofar season experienced a surge in visitors last year, with 962,000 visitors compared to 813,000 in 2022. This year, the Governorate is expecting to surpass the one-million visitor mark, as it continues to be a popular tourist destination for both local and international tourists.

During the Khareef Dhofar season, visitors are treated to a unique experience that combines nature, relaxation, shopping, entertainment, culture, tourism, and sports activities. Dhofar Governorate boasts a rich array of natural, tourist, and cultural heritage resources, with ambitious plans to expand economic opportunities in the upcoming seasons. Dr. Ahmed bin Mohsen Al-Ghassani, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality, highlighted the key activities planned for the Khareef Dhofar 2024 season. Events are set to kick off early this year, starting on June 21 and running until September 20, doubling the usual duration of the Khareef season. The extended schedule aims to attract more tourists, increase capacity, and ensure smoother traffic flow, offering new and thrilling experiences at existing and new locations in the Governorate.

At the ‘Atin Square’ site, international events will be showcased alongside Omani and Arab art concerts at the Al-Murooj Theatre and other venues. The attraction will adopt a new, captivating concept this year, including a sports challenge field, light and laser shows, and comprehensive visitor services for a unique and distinctive experience. In addition, the ‘Return of the Past’ activities will be held in the Saada area, featuring traditional arts, heritage markets, artisan products, and live arts performances that showcase Omani culture in updated and enriched environments.

Parks and recreational areas in Dhofar Governorate will also see enhancements this year. Awqad Park will feature children’s zones with international villages, entertainment activities, and various dining options, while the Salalah Public Park will offer sports activities for all ages. The Dhofar International Theatre Festival will be organized for the first time, promoting cultural and literary fields in cooperation with relevant Omani authorities and featuring international theatre groups. The festival will also host art concerts by elite Omani and Arab artists, enhancing the cultural landscape in the region.

To further enhance tourists’ experiences during Khareef and other seasons, various activities will be organized across Salalah and other states in the Governorate. These events will focus on cultural, commercial, entertainment, and sports activities, as well as specialized exhibitions. Karting races at the Salalah Celebrations Grounds and ‘Drag Race’ activities in the Dummar area in the Wilayat of Mirbat will cater to adrenaline enthusiasts. Efforts to develop and improve tourist sites in Dhofar Governorate, such as the Darbat Valley viewpoint, the Mughsail area waterfront, Ain Jarzeez, and the Hamreer viewpoint, are underway in collaboration with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and the Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran). With these initiatives, Dhofar Governorate aims to attract more visitors and provide them with unforgettable experiences during the Khareef Dhofar 2024 season and beyond.
