Deputies and Assistants of GCC Supreme and Cassation Courts Gather for Meeting

The ninth meeting of deputies and assistants of the supreme and cassation courts of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states took place in Doha, with a focus on strengthening joint cooperation in the field of supreme and cassation courts. The meeting was opened by Judge Dr. Thaqeel Sayer Al Shammari, Deputy of the Court of Cassation, who emphasized the importance of such gatherings. Assistant Secretary-General for Legislative and Legal Affairs, Consultant H E Sultan bin Nasser Al Suwaidi, represented the GCC General Secretariat at the meeting.

Consultant Sultan bin Nasser Al Suwaidi highlighted the significance of the meeting in his address, stating the agenda items were focused on enhancing cooperation between member states in the field of supreme and cassation courts. Discussions centered on judicial principles and landmark rulings, particularly those related to laws adopted by GCC states. The meeting also delved into rulings on customs, trademarks, and other laws issued by member states, with a focus on coordinating these rulings across the GCC courts.

In an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA), Judge Dr. Al Shammari shared insights into the discussions at the meeting. He emphasized the importance of sharing judicial principles and landmark rulings among member states. The gathering also aimed to explore ways to coordinate rulings on customs, trademarks, and other legislative matters across the GCC courts. This cooperation is vital for ensuring consistency and fairness in legal decisions across the region.

The meeting in Doha highlighted the commitment of GCC states to enhancing collaboration in the field of supreme and cassation courts. By coming together to discuss judicial principles, landmark rulings, and legislative matters, member states are working towards harmonizing legal decisions across the region. This coordination is crucial for ensuring a fair and consistent application of laws within the GCC.

As the deputy of the Court of Cassation, Judge Dr. Al Shammari played a key role in leading the discussions at the meeting. His expertise and insights contributed to productive conversations on how to strengthen cooperation between GCC states in the realm of supreme and cassation courts.
