Doha, Qatar – Residents of Doha and surrounding areas have been alerted to potential disruptions due to foggy conditions expected to develop late Tuesday night, January 13, 2026. The Department of Meteorology issued a warning of reduced horizontal visibility, particularly in coastal regions, as a result of misty and foggy weather. This weather pattern is anticipated to persist into the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The alert covers inland areas of Qatar, with the most significant impact expected on transportation and outdoor activities. Offshore areas are also forecast to experience scattered clouds and hazy conditions, potentially affecting marine traffic. The Department of Meteorology advises caution for drivers and those engaged in sea-based operations.

Understanding the Current Foggy Conditions in Doha

The current weather situation is characterized by comparatively cold temperatures and scattered cloud cover across Qatar. According to the Department of Meteorology’s daily report, the combination of these factors creates an environment conducive to fog formation, especially during the cooler nighttime hours. This is a relatively common occurrence during the winter months in the region.

The formation of fog is linked to high humidity levels and a slight temperature decrease. As warm, moist air comes into contact with cooler surfaces, condensation occurs, resulting in the formation of tiny water droplets suspended in the air. This reduces visibility and can create hazardous conditions.

Inshore Weather Details

Inshore winds are expected to be southeasterly, ranging from 5 to 15 knots. Visibility is currently between 4 and 9 kilometers but is predicted to drop to 2 kilometers or less in localized areas as the mist and fog thicken. Sea state inshore will fluctuate between 1 and 3 feet, potentially rising to 4 feet in northern coastal areas.

Offshore Weather and Sea Conditions

Offshore conditions will mirror the inshore pattern with scattered clouds and periods of haze. Southeasterly winds offshore are forecast at 5 to 15 knots, with gusts up to 20 knots possible in northern regions. The sea state offshore is expected to be between 2 and 4 feet, increasing to 6 feet in the north. This could impact smaller vessels and recreational boating activities.

The potential for reduced visibility extends beyond road travel. Airports in and around Doha may experience delays or cancellations due to the weather. Qatar Airways and other airlines operating in the region are likely monitoring the situation closely and may adjust flight schedules as needed. Travelers are advised to check with their respective airlines for the latest updates.

The Department of Meteorology’s warning highlights the importance of preparedness during periods of low visibility. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, use low-beam headlights, and increase following distances. Additionally, mariners should exercise extreme caution and utilize appropriate navigational aids. The visibility reduction poses a risk to both land and sea transportation.

Similar weather patterns were observed in previous years during the winter season, often leading to temporary disruptions in daily life. The geographical location of Qatar, surrounded by water and experiencing seasonal temperature variations, makes it susceptible to these conditions. Monitoring weather forecasts and adhering to safety guidelines are crucial during these times.

Looking ahead, the Department of Meteorology will continue to monitor the situation and provide updated forecasts as the weather evolves. The duration and intensity of the foggy conditions remain uncertain, dependent on factors such as wind speed and humidity levels. Residents should stay informed through official channels and be prepared for potential changes in weather conditions throughout the week.

Further updates regarding the Doha weather are expected by Wednesday morning, with the Department of Meteorology planning to issue a revised report at 6:00 AM local time. The public is encouraged to consult the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change website for the most current information.
