Doha, Qatar – Ousmane Dembele of Paris Saint-Germain has been awarded The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2025 at a ceremony held at Fairmont Katara Hall yesterday. The 28-year-old French forward was recognized for his outstanding performance throughout the 2024/25 season, culminating in a historic Champions League title for PSG. This prestigious award solidifies Dembele’s position as a leading figure in global football.

The selection process, overseen by FIFA, considered player performances between August 11, 2024, and August 2, 2025. Dembele’s win follows his earlier achievement of the Ballon d’Or in September, marking a remarkable period of individual success. He was also named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for both the Champions League and Ligue 1 during the season.

Ousmane Dembele’s Triumphant Season and The Best FIFA Men’s Player Award

Dembele’s impact on PSG’s success was undeniable. He scored eight goals and provided six assists during their Champions League campaign, becoming a key component of the team’s attack. His contributions extended to domestic competitions, where PSG secured a treble, further highlighting his value.

The voting for The Best FIFA Men’s Player Award was a comprehensive process. It included contributions from men’s national team coaches, team captains, football journalists, and fans via FIFA’s official website. Each group’s votes accounted for 25% of the final score, with voters ranking their top three choices.

Award Methodology

Points were assigned based on ranking – five for first place, three for second, and one for third. Notably, captains were ineligible to vote for themselves. In the event of a tie, the player with the most first-place votes within their respective voting group was declared the winner, according to FIFA.

Beyond Dembele’s victory, the awards ceremony recognized other top performers in the football world. Luis Enrique, PSG’s coach, was named Best Coach of a Men’s Team, surpassing nominees Hansi Flick of Barcelona and Arne Slot, who led Liverpool to a Premier League title. This underscores PSG’s overall dominance during the season.

Alexia Bonmati of Spain continued her reign as the top female player, winning The Best FIFA Women’s Player for the third consecutive year. This achievement followed her third consecutive Ballon d’Or win. Despite a season marked by both triumphs and setbacks, including injuries, Bonmati’s skill and leadership were consistently on display.

In other awards, Gianluigi Donnarumma, now with Manchester City after a successful stint with PSG, received the Best Men’s Goalkeeper award. Chelsea’s Hannah Hampton was honored as the Best Women’s Goalkeeper. The Puskas Award, recognizing the best goal of the year, went to Santiago Montiel for an impressive overhead kick. Lizbeth Ovalle claimed the Marta Award for her spectacular scorpion kick.

The awards ceremony also acknowledged the growing importance of club football, with PSG reaching the final of the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup. This competition, designed to pit the champions of each continent against each other, is expected to become a regular fixture in the international football calendar. The success of PSG in both continental and domestic competitions has positioned them as a global football powerhouse, attracting attention from fans and sports betting analysts alike.

Looking ahead, the focus will shift to the upcoming club seasons and international tournaments. The performances of award winners like Dembele and Bonmati will undoubtedly be closely watched as they continue to represent their clubs and nations. The criteria and voting process for The Best FIFA Football Awards are subject to review, and any changes will be announced by FIFA in due course. The next iteration of these awards will likely take place in early 2026, following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season and any major international competitions held that year.
