The recent 33rd session of the Arab League Summit in Manama saw Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reaffirming Saudi Arabia’s support for the establishment of a Palestinian state and its international recognition as a full member of the United Nations. The Crown Prince called on the international community to support ceasefire efforts and halt the ongoing Israeli aggression on Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip. He highlighted the Kingdom’s attention to Arab issues, particularly the Palestine issue, and referenced a meeting hosted by Saudi Arabia in Riyadh in November 2023 to address the Israeli aggression on Gaza.

The Arab leaders gathered at the summit after the Riyadh meeting, discussing the dangerous Gaza escalation and stressing the importance of maintaining the security of the Red Sea region. Prince Mohammed bin Salman emphasized the need to resolve disputes peacefully and called for an end to any acts that affect maritime navigation. The Saudi delegation, led by the Crown Prince, arrived in Bahrain for the summit in accordance with the directives of King Salman. King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa of Bahrain called for an international conference for peace in the Middle East and pledged his country’s support for the full recognition of a Palestinian state and its acceptance into the United Nations.

The recent UN General Assembly backing of a Palestinian bid for full UN membership has further heightened the urgency of addressing the Gaza situation and the establishment of a Palestinian state. The Gulf leaders attending the summit included Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, UAE’s Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashed Al-Maktoum, and Kuwait’s Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. The one-day Arab League summit sought to address these pressing issues and rally support for the Palestinian cause.

The summit discussions also touched on the broader regional security concerns, with Prince Mohammed bin Salman emphasizing the importance of maintaining stability in the Red Sea region. The Kingdom’s call for peaceful dispute resolution reflects its commitment to promoting regional peace and security. The summit provided a platform for Arab leaders to coordinate their efforts and show solidarity in addressing the challenges facing the region, particularly the Israeli aggression on Gaza and the need for a resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

In his address at the summit, Prince Mohammed bin Salman underscored Saudi Arabia’s support for the Palestinian cause and its efforts to address the humanitarian conditions in Gaza. The Kingdom’s hosting of the previous Arab and Islamic Summit in Riyadh and its condemnation of the Israeli aggression demonstrate its commitment to upholding Arab solidarity and advocating for the rights of the Palestinian people. The Crown Prince’s participation in the summit reflects Saudi Arabia’s leadership role in the Arab world and its ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.

Overall, the Arab League Summit in Manama highlighted the urgent need for a resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the establishment of a Palestinian state. The Gulf leaders’ participation in the summit underscores their commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause and addressing regional security concerns. The summit discussions also underscored the importance of maintaining stability in the Red Sea region and resolving disputes through peaceful means. Saudi Arabia’s leadership in advocating for the rights of the Palestinian people and its efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continue to play a crucial role in advancing regional peace and security.
