Argentina captain Lionel Messi is set to play in the Copa America semifinal against Canada despite concerns over a hamstring injury. The forward returned to action in the quarterfinal against Ecuador after missing a match due to injury. Although he played the full game, Messi looked physically hampered and missed a penalty in the shootout that decided the game. Coach Lionel Scaloni confirmed Messi’s fitness for the upcoming match and emphasized his importance to the team.

In the previous encounter between Argentina and Canada in the tournament, the defending champions emerged victorious with a 2-0 win. Scaloni mentioned that both teams will look to implement different strategies this time around. He highlighted the need to correct mistakes and disrupt the opponent’s game plan. The Argentine coach expressed his intention to control possession and neutralize Canada’s physical and aggressive style of play.

Scaloni acknowledged Canada’s strength and technical ability, along with their coach’s aggressive approach to the game. He emphasized the challenge of matching Canada’s physicality but expressed confidence in Argentina’s assets to dictate the game’s flow. Both teams are coming off penalty shootout victories in the quarterfinals, setting the stage for an intense and competitive semifinal encounter.

The Argentine coach’s focus is on implementing a game plan that leverages his team’s strengths while countering Canada’s physicality. He stressed the importance of having possession and disrupting the opponent’s rhythm. With Messi’s presence on the field, Argentina will look to assert their dominance and secure a spot in the Copa America final. Scaloni’s tactical approach and emphasis on controlling the game will be crucial in determining the outcome of the semifinal clash.
