Kuwait Cabinet Focuses on Economic Reforms and Regional Ties

The Kuwaiti Cabinet’s agenda was packed, reflecting the dynamic challenges and opportunities facing the nation. A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to reviewing progress on ongoing economic reforms, a key driver for securing Kuwait’s long-term financial stability and attracting foreign investment. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Shareeda Abdullah Al-Maousherji, detailed the discussions following the session, providing insights into the government’s strategic priorities.

Upcoming Amir’s Delegation to Bahrain

Preparations for His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s upcoming visit to Bahrain for the 46th Ordinary Session of the Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) on December 3 were also high on the agenda. A comprehensive official delegation, including representatives from vital ministries such as Defense, Foreign Affairs, and Finance, has been formed to accompany the Amir. This underscores Kuwait’s commitment to bolstering its relationships within the GCC bloc and promoting regional stability.

Strengthening Bonds with the UAE

The Cabinet expressed its deep appreciation to the leadership of the United Arab Emirates, specifically President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, for launching the “Celebrating Decades of Brotherhood” initiative. This initiative serves as a powerful symbol of the enduring and robust fraternal ties between Kuwait and the UAE. The longstanding partnership between the two nations extends across numerous sectors, including trade, investment, and cultural exchange, making the UAE a crucial ally for Kuwait. This reaffirmation of the relationship is important for Kuwait-UAE relations.

Promoting Technological Advancement & Energy Security

A briefing by Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, and Acting Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment, Dr. Sabeeh Abdulaziz Al-Mukhaizeem, highlighted the significance of the GE Vernova Technology Center in Kuwait. Marking its tenth anniversary, the center plays a vital role in modernizing power generation, implementing advanced control systems, and building national expertise in renewable energy technologies.

The Cabinet reiterated its dedication to attracting foreign investment into Kuwait’s energy sector. Specifically, it emphasized enhancing collaboration between the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) and GE Vernova to further accelerate innovation and growth in this crucial domain. This focus speaks to Kuwait’s Vision 2035 and its ambitions for a diversified and sustainable economy.

Commitment to Public Safety and Infrastructure Enhancement

The Cabinet addressed essential public safety matters, approving the demolition of 67 unsafe properties in the Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area. This initiative, coordinated across multiple ministries including Public Works, Interior, and Health, aims to safeguard residents and improve overall living conditions. The demolition is part of a wider effort to modernize infrastructure and address urban decay.

Simultaneously, the Cabinet reviewed a positive report regarding infrastructure – namely the recent upgrade of Kuwait’s sovereign rating from A+ to AA- with a stable outlook by Standard & Poor’s Global Ratings. This upgrade acknowledges the progress achieved in economic reforms, diversification efforts, sustainable fiscal policies, and infrastructure improvements. The Minister of Finance was tasked with providing continued updates on these critical developments.

International Recognition and Aviation Safety

Kuwait continues to gain international recognition for its contributions to culture and aviation. The Cabinet congratulated the nation on its election to a four-year seat on UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee, acknowledging Kuwait’s rich cultural heritage and its commitment to preserving global treasures.

Furthermore, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) received praise for its excellent performance in the ICAO USOAP-CMA audit, achieving an 86% compliance rate. This significant accomplishment demonstrates Kuwait’s adherence to the highest global aviation safety standards and underscores its preparedness for the operations at the new Kuwait International Airport (T2), a project designed to significantly expand the nation’s air travel capacity.

Citizenship Verification Process

The Cabinet also approved the minutes of the Higher Committee for Kuwaiti Citizenship Verification, addressing cases of citizenship loss and withdrawal in full compliance with Law No (15) of 1959. Decisions were forwarded to relevant ministerial committees for further action.

In conclusion, the Kuwait Cabinet’s meeting on November 25, 2025, demonstrated a clear and purposeful direction for the nation. By prioritizing economic diversification, fostering regional partnerships, strengthening public safety, and adhering to international standards, Kuwait is positioning itself for sustained growth and a brighter future. The consistent focus on attracting foreign investment coupled with a commitment to progress across all sectors signals a period of dynamic development for the country. Ongoing monitoring and reporting will be crucial to maintaining momentum and ensuring the effective implementation of these strategic initiatives.
