Muscat is currently experiencing surface wind activity that is expected to bring about dust storms and reduced horizontal visibility in desert and open areas. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued a warning about the rise in temperatures due to these conditions. The active southwest winds are expected to affect large areas of the South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, and Dhofar governorates. Meteorological stations have reported wind speeds of up to 31 knots at Thumrait station, 28 knots at Al Duqm station, and 23 knots at Al Jazir station.

The CAA has advised the public to avoid direct sunlight exposure, particularly during noon, to prevent any adverse effects from the extreme weather conditions. It is crucial to take precautions to stay safe during this time. Dust storms can significantly reduce visibility on the roads, posing a potential hazard for drivers and pedestrians alike. It is recommended to stay indoors as much as possible and to wear protective gear if venturing outside.

These weather conditions may also impact air travel, causing potential delays or cancellations of flights. Passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines for any updates or changes to their travel plans. It is essential to stay informed about the latest weather forecasts and to plan accordingly to avoid any inconvenience.

In addition to the dust storms and reduced visibility, the rise in temperatures can also pose a health risk, especially for vulnerable individuals such as the elderly, children, and those with respiratory issues. It is important to stay hydrated and to seek shelter in cool, shaded areas during the peak hours of the day to prevent heat-related illnesses.

The Civil Aviation Authority is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary. It is crucial for residents and visitors to heed the warnings and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this period of increased wind activity. By staying informed and following the guidelines provided by the authorities, individuals can minimize the risks associated with the extreme weather conditions.

Overall, it is important to exercise caution and to prioritize safety during times of adverse weather conditions such as dust storms and high winds. By taking proactive measures and staying informed, individuals can protect themselves and others from potential harm and ensure a smooth experience during these challenging weather events in Muscat.
