The Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) recently celebrated Emirati Women’s Day by honoring the significant contributions of women to the financial sector and society. The theme of this year’s event was “We Collaborate for Tomorrow,” highlighting the importance of women in shaping the future. As part of the celebration, a special bell-ringing ceremony was held to recognize pioneering women in the industry. One notable attendee was Al Dhabi Al Mehairi, a nine-year-old entrepreneur who made history as the youngest person to ring the opening bell at ADX.

As of July 2024, the number of female investors on ADX had surpassed 309,000, with women accounting for 77% of all female investors on the exchange. The total trading values of Emirati female investors during this period reached Dh7.6 billion, representing nearly 80% of the total trading values of all female investors on ADX. Additionally, the market value of shares held by Emirati women stood at Dh30 billion out of the total Dh33 billion in female holdings on the exchange, showing that women play a significant role in the UAE’s financial market.

Gender diversity is a key focus at ADX, with women making up 36% of the exchange’s workforce. ADX is committed to fostering gender equality within the financial sector and has implemented policies to empower women at all levels of its operations. The exchange recognizes the importance of women in driving innovation and growth in the industry, and seeks to create a supportive environment for female professionals to thrive.

The success of Emirati women in the financial sector reflects the broader progress being made towards gender equality in the UAE. Women are playing an increasingly important role in the country’s economy, with their contributions being recognized and celebrated across various industries. As more women enter the workforce and pursue entrepreneurial opportunities, the UAE’s economy continues to diversify and grow.

Events like Emirati Women’s Day serve as a reminder of the valuable contributions that women make to society and the economy. By highlighting the achievements of women in the financial sector, ADX aims to inspire the next generation of female leaders and entrepreneurs. The exchange’s ongoing commitment to gender diversity and empowerment will help ensure that women continue to play an integral role in shaping the future of the UAE’s financial industry.

In conclusion, the celebration of Emirati Women’s Day at ADX underscores the remarkable progress that women have made in the financial sector. As the UAE’s youngest entrepreneur rings the opening bell and female investors make up a significant portion of the market, it is clear that women are driving innovation and growth in the country’s economy. With a continued focus on gender diversity and empowerment, ADX is paving the way for a more inclusive and equal future for all in the financial sector.
