Sohar Port and Freezone have recently signed a Land Lease Agreement with MAK Sohar Chemical Industries for two major projects that represent an $11 million investment in Sohar Freezone. The first project involves establishing a production facility for engineering polymers, thermoplastic elastomers, and thermoplastic olefins, with an advanced urea inhibition unit. The manufacturing facility will have an annual production capacity of 25,000 tonnes and will target domestic and international markets in North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. In addition, the facility will produce advanced urea inhibition coatings for European markets, packaged in different sizes. The projects are set to utilize modern technology and enhance innovation, creating added value in the global chemicals market.

Jens Frickel, Sales Manager at M.A.K. Germany, expressed excitement about embarking on these projects with Sohar Freezone. The agreement with OQ-Ladayn Park will allow MAK Sohar Chemical Industries to convert raw olefins into advanced engineering compounds and polymers. The aim is to become a key player in the global market for TPO and TPE polymers as an Omani entity in the Sohar Freezone. These initiatives will enhance operational capabilities and reinforce their market position. By establishing a modern plant in Sohar Freezone and utilizing German technology, the company aims to meet the increasing demand for high-quality chemical products in various regions around the world.

Omar bin Mahmood Al Mahrizi, CEO of Sohar Freezone and Deputy CEO of Sohar Port, highlighted the significance of these projects in advancing the chemicals sector at Sohar Port and Freezone. Leveraging advanced technology and expertise, the aim is to meet market demands, explore transformative projects for economic diversification, and foster a supportive environment for business and innovation. By enhancing international cooperation and sustainable investments, the goal is to strengthen the competitive edge and achieve sustainable growth in advanced polymer and chemical industries.

Sohar Freezone is home to industries from 53 countries, solidifying its position as an engine of economic diversification. With 85% of Phase I fully leased, Phase II is currently underway to offer a total land area of up to 675 hectares to meet the growing needs for industrial and commercial space. The projects with MAK Sohar Chemical Industries signify a significant step forward in enhancing capabilities and contributing to the global market. By leveraging modern technology and expertise, Sohar Port and Freezone are striving to meet market demands, drive innovation, and support economic growth in the region and beyond.
