BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), a global medical technology company, has teamed up with the Saudi Patient Safety Center (SPSC) in a strategic partnership to enhance patient safety and healthcare quality in Saudi Arabia. The partnership, solidified through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during the Global Health Exhibition in Saudi Arabia, aims to address critical healthcare challenges such as reducing medication errors, managing sepsis, and combating Healthcare-associated Infections (HAIs) and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). These efforts are in line with BD Signature Programmes™, which focus on improving patient safety, healthcare worker safety, and operational efficiency within healthcare systems.

The collaboration between BD and the Saudi Patient Safety Center will focus on key areas such as medication safety to eliminate harm from medication errors, prevention of HAIs like Central Line-associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSI) and Surgical Site Infections (SSI), and antimicrobial stewardship. The partnership will also work towards enhancing sustainability and workflow efficiency in healthcare systems across the Kingdom. By bringing together BD’s global expertise and innovative technologies with the SPSC’s strategic vision, the goal is to promote a culture of continuous improvement in patient and healthcare worker safety, ultimately setting new benchmarks for excellence in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030.

Dr. Ali Asery, Director General of the Saudi Patient Safety Center, emphasized the importance of the collaboration in elevating healthcare safety in Saudi Arabia. By leveraging BD’s expertise and technologies, the partnership aims to empower healthcare professionals with the tools and knowledge needed to deliver safer and more effective care. Through a series of workshops, training sessions, and exchange of best practices in over 500 hospitals nationwide, the partnership will focus on developing and sharing clinical guidelines based on international recommendations and improving data collection in adherence to the Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL).

The partnership between BD and the SPSC will also involve the development of a whitepaper titled ‘Medication Safety 2030,’ advocating for a national strategy to achieve zero harm from medication errors. Omar Malabarey, Country General Manager of BD Saudi Arabia, expressed the company’s commitment to transforming patient safety through innovation and technology. By working together with the SPSC, BD aims to reduce risks, enhance care quality, and promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement in alignment with Vision 2030’s goals for a resilient and sustainable healthcare system in Saudi Arabia.

Overall, the partnership between BD and the Saudi Patient Safety Center represents a significant step towards shaping the future of healthcare in Saudi Arabia. Through shared expertise, innovative technologies, and a focus on patient safety and quality improvement, both organizations are working towards achieving the healthcare goals set out in Saudi Vision 2030. By collaborating on initiatives to address critical healthcare challenges, develop clinical guidelines, and empower healthcare professionals, the partnership aims to drive positive change and enhance the overall healthcare ecosystem in the Kingdom.
