Indian Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recently spoke at the SHRM event in New Delhi, where he highlighted India’s remarkable transformation over the last decade and its journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047. He emphasized the significant strides India has made across various sectors, from economic growth to technological leadership, calling upon the youth and corporate leaders to contribute to the nation’s bright future. Goyal remarked on India’s growth trajectory, stating that the journey towards becoming a developed nation has just begun and will define the lives of 1.4 billion people.
Reflecting on India’s progress in recent years, Goyal noted that just a decade ago, India was considered part of the fragile five economies, facing slow growth and high inflation. However, in 2024, India has transformed into the world’s fifth-largest economy with aspirations to soon become the third-largest. The minister highlighted India’s rapid technological advancements, highlighting the country’s transition from struggling with 2G to rolling out 5G across 125 cities faster than any other country. He also pointed out India’s achievements in renewable energy, achieving its 2030 target eight years ahead of schedule.
Goyal also emphasized India’s future vision, noting that the country’s demographic advantage of a young population and strong macroeconomic fundamentals position it well to achieve its ambitious goals. He mentioned India’s aspiration to become a USD 30 to USD 35 trillion economy by 2047, urging attendees to align their efforts with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. Goyal highlighted India’s efforts in adopting sustainability, moving towards electric mobility, and renewable energy to help improve the quality of life for its citizens and serve as an example for the rest of the world.
