The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (Opaz) has announced a tender for a complementary works project at the fishing port in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm. This project is funded by the Saudi Development Fund and includes the establishment of various utility services such as road networks, traffic signals, power supply for road lighting, rainwater drainage systems, sewage systems, drinking water networks, fire-fighting systems and communications infrastructure at the fishing port in Sezad. Experienced Omani and Saudi corporate coalitions are invited to participate in the tender through the electronic tender platform “Isnad,” with a submission deadline of 18 November 2024.

The existing fishing port in Duqm covers an area of approximately 7.5 square kilometers and consists of 3.3 kilometers of breakwaters, a fixed quay of 1.3 kilometers, six floating berths with a draft depth of up to 10 meters, and a dedicated berth for Coast Guard boats. The location of the fishing port is strategically close to the planned fisheries and food industries area, designed to meet the basic investment needs for targeted food industries. Currently, the port hosts six factories and aims to serve green energy projects that are environmentally friendly.

The fishing port in Duqm is operated by Duqm Port Investment Company, a coalition led by several companies from Oman Investment Authority (OIA) including Oman Fish Development Company (FDO), Asyad Ports and Harbors Company, Al Wusta Fisheries Industries Company, and Oman Food Investment Holding Company “Nitaj.” The coalition also includes the French Lorient Port Company, one of the largest fishing ports in Europe. The port is part of a larger vision to support the economic growth and development of the region, with a focus on sustainability and environmental responsibility.

The tender for the complementary works project at the fishing port in Sezad is a significant opportunity for Omani and Saudi corporate coalitions to contribute to the development of the infrastructure and utility networks in the area. This project is part of the ongoing efforts to enhance the capabilities and services of the fishing port, with a focus on meeting the needs of targeted food industries and supporting green energy projects. The deadline for submission of tender documents is set for 18 November 2024, providing interested parties with ample time to prepare and submit their proposals.

Opaz’s invitation to experienced Omani and Saudi corporate coalitions to participate in the tender for the complementary works project at the fishing port in Duqm demonstrates a commitment to collaboration and partnership in advancing the development of the Special Economic Zone. The involvement of both local and international companies in the project reflects the importance of leveraging diverse expertise and resources to achieve the shared goals of economic growth and sustainability in the region. By engaging with stakeholders from both Oman and Saudi Arabia, Opaz seeks to create opportunities for mutual benefit and contribute to the overall progress of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm.

In conclusion, the fishing port in Duqm plays a vital role in supporting the economic activities and growth of the region, with a focus on serving green energy projects and targeted food industries. The ongoing tender for complementary works at the port presents a valuable opportunity for Omani and Saudi corporate coalitions to contribute to the development of infrastructure and utility networks in the area. With a submission deadline of 18 November 2024, interested parties are encouraged to participate in this significant project that aims to enhance the capabilities and services of the fishing port and support sustainable economic development in the region.
