OMR 1.5 million investment agreement signed for Ibri Science and Innovation Centre

OQ Refineries and Petroleum Industries, a company under the OQ Group, and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) recently signed an agreement with the Office of the Governor of Al Dhahirah to establish and manage the Ibri Innovation and Science Centre. This collaboration, with an investment of OMR 1.5 million, aims to drive sustainable development in alignment with Oman Vision 2040 and promote innovation among the country’s youth. The partnership seeks to contribute to the development of Al Dhahirah Governorate through sustainable projects, highlighting the commitment of both companies to social responsibility and community service. By creating new growth opportunities and partnerships, the centre will support Oman’s social and economic development goals.

The signing of the agreement included Najeeb bin Ali Al Rawas, Governor of Al Dhahirah Governorate; Kamil Al Shanfari, Chief Executive OQ Refineries and Petroleum Industries; and Engineer Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Ghareebi, External Affairs, Communication and Social Investment Manager at PDO. The Ibri Innovation and Science Centre will provide various facilities for the local community, such as an innovation hub, a youth and culture centre, a museum, a public library, an open-air theatre, and retail shops. This centre is set to become a hub of innovation and culture in Al Dhahirah Governorate, offering Omani youth opportunities to enhance their creativity and skills in scientific and cultural fields.

PDO will be responsible for overseeing the construction and management of the Ibri Innovation and Science Centre until its completion. Once operational, the centre will be transitioned to the Office of the Governor of Al Dhahirah for day-to-day management. This initiative reflects the companies’ dedication to supporting local collaboration and fostering sustainable development in Oman. The centre’s focus on innovation and culture will provide the community with a valuable resource for education, creativity, and collaboration, contributing to the overall development of Al Dhahirah Governorate.

In line with Oman Vision 2040, the Ibri Innovation and Science Centre aims to spark innovation and creativity among Oman’s youth, providing them with opportunities to develop their skills and expertise in various fields. The investment of OMR 1.5 million reflects the commitment of OQ Refineries and Petroleum Industries and PDO to supporting sustainable development and social responsibility in Oman. Through the establishment of this centre, the companies are demonstrating their dedication to fostering growth and partnerships within the local community, with a focus on supporting the social and economic development goals of the country.
