The Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) is gearing up for the summer of 2024 to ensure the reliability, safety, and sustainability of the electricity transmission network across all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. With the anticipation of a 7% increase in electrical loads compared to last year, the company is focused on meeting the rising electricity demands in the region. To guarantee ample generation availability during the summer period, OETC has closely collaborated with the Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (NPWP).

In preparation for the upcoming summer peak, OETC has conducted mock drills, technical workshops, and training programmes involving all technical teams to ensure they are ready for any challenges that may arise. The company has also completed and energized several projects aimed at supporting the safe and reliable operation of the network during the summer, including the Jefnain 400/132 kV Grid Station, part of the Rustaq 400/132 kV Grid Station, and the Jawabi 132/33 kV Grid Station. Eng. Sultan Al Rawahi, General Manager of the Load Dispatch Center at the OETC, has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to enhancing the quality, safety, and reliability of the electricity transmission network.

Furthermore, OETC maintains regular communication with various licensed distribution and supply companies through workshops and meetings to address key challenges anticipated during the summer season. These engagements aim to identify suitable solutions and ensure effective coordination in load transfer for new projects. The company also emphasizes the preparedness of emergency teams to promptly address any unforeseen emergencies that may arise during the peak summer period.

Eng. Sultan Al Rawahi emphasized OETC’s dedication to enhancing the efficiency of the electricity transmission network by continuously training employees, technical teams, and all related parties to ensure the smooth flow of work according to plans and optimal response to the sector’s significant growth. The company organizes training campaigns, simulations of power outages, technical workshops, and field visits in cooperation with relevant parties to enhance the readiness of all teams to deal with any emergency swiftly and efficiently.

As a member of the Nama Group, OETC is the sole company responsible for the transmission and control of electricity in the Sultanate’s network. The company transfers electricity from generation stations to distributed load centres in all governorates of the Sultanate at a voltage of 132 kV and above. Additionally, OETC manages the interconnection lines between the Sultanate and the Gulf interconnection network with a voltage of 220 kV, covering most of the governorates of the Sultanate, both in the north and the south. Through its continuous efforts and collaborations with various stakeholders, OETC is committed to ensuring a reliable, safe, and efficient electricity transmission network in the Sultanate of Oman.
