Iraq has recently affirmed its commitment to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Declaration of Cooperation (DoC) agreement, promising to compensate for any oil overproduction that has occurred since the beginning of 2024. The country’s Oil Ministry made this announcement following reports from secondary sources that showed Iraq’s crude oil production exceeding the quota set in the DoC agreement by 184,000 barrels per day in June 2024.

In order to uphold its commitment to the agreement, Iraq has pledged to adhere to the required production level of 4 million barrels per day for July and the upcoming months. Additionally, the country will work to compensate for the excess production that has occurred since the beginning of the year, with a compensation period extending until the end of September 2025. This decision reflects Iraq’s dedication to supporting OPEC’s efforts to stabilize global oil markets and ensure fair and sustainable energy production.

By complying with the DoC agreement and taking steps to rectify any overproduction, Iraq aims to demonstrate its reliability as a member of OPEC and foster trust among other member countries. The country’s commitment to meeting its production quotas and participating in the compensation program highlights its willingness to cooperate with OPEC and contribute to the organization’s overall goals of market stability and sustainable energy practices.

In light of the challenges posed by fluctuations in global oil demand and supply, OPEC plays a crucial role in coordinating efforts among member countries to address market imbalances. Iraq’s decision to follow through on its commitments under the DoC agreement reinforces the organization’s efforts to manage production levels and stabilize oil prices for the benefit of both producing and consuming nations.

As a key player in the global oil market, Iraq’s adherence to OPEC’s production agreements is essential for maintaining stability and predictability in the industry. By fulfilling its obligations and actively participating in efforts to address overproduction, Iraq demonstrates its commitment to responsible resource management and sustainable energy practices in line with OPEC’s objectives.

In conclusion, Iraq’s reaffirmation of its commitment to the OPEC Declaration of Cooperation agreement underscores the country’s dedication to working collaboratively with other member states to achieve common goals. By upholding production quotas, participating in compensation programs, and supporting market stability, Iraq contributes to the overall success of OPEC’s efforts to regulate oil production and promote sustainable energy practices worldwide. This commitment reflects Iraq’s role as a responsible player in the global energy sector and its commitment to ensuring a stable and efficient oil market for the benefit of all stakeholders.
