Electricity generation in Oman increased by 16.3%

The Sultanate of Oman has seen a significant increase in its total electricity generation, reaching 5,365 gigawatts per hour by the end of February 2024. This marked a 16.3 percent increase from the previous year. The governorates of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, and Al Dhahirah collectively recorded a total electricity generation of 3,312.5 gigawatts per hour. Muscat Governorate, on the other hand, saw a decrease of 94.2 percent, with only 1.1 gigawatts per hour generated.

In Dhofar Governorate, there was a 12.4 percent increase in electricity generation, reaching 655 gigawatts per hour. Meanwhile, North Al Sharqiyah and South Al Sharqiyah recorded a 36.5 percent increase in total electricity generation, totaling 1,292.5 gigawatts per hour. Al Wusta Governorate, however, experienced a 77 percent decrease, generating only 11.2 gigawatts per hour. Musandam Governorate saw a notable increase of 118.2 percent, reaching 92.8 gigawatts per hour in total electricity generation.

Net electricity generation in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 15.9 percent, reaching 5,171.6 gigawatts per hour by the end of February 2024. Additionally, the total amount of water produced in the country also saw an increase, totaling about 81.28 million cubic meters. This marked a 2.6 percent increase from the previous year, which saw 79.26 million cubic meters produced in the same period.

These statistics indicate a positive trend in electricity generation and water production in Oman, suggesting improved infrastructure and capabilities in meeting the country’s energy needs. It also reflects a commitment to sustainable development and ensuring access to essential resources for the population. As the country continues to grow and develop, such advancements in energy and water production are crucial for supporting economic and social progress.
