The British Embassy in Bahrain, under the leadership of His Excellency Ambassador Alastair Long, recently launched a unique initiative to celebrate International Day for Women in Diplomacy. The program aimed to provide young Bahraini women with hands-on experience in the field of diplomacy. Through a competition, three outstanding young women were selected to become “shadowed ambassadors” and gain valuable insights into the profession.

Ambassador Long highlighted the dual purpose of the initiative: to educate young people about diplomacy and to identify talented young women with the potential to excel in the field. The selected participants had the opportunity to meet and interact with influential female Bahraini leaders, including ministers and directors from various government sectors. These meetings offered them a chance to learn about the role of ministers, decision-making processes, and the importance of diplomacy in international relations.

The program was not limited to domestic exposure, as the “shadowed ambassadors” also had the opportunity to meet with UN officials and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to gain a broader perspective on international diplomacy. The participants were able to discover the diverse career paths available in diplomacy, ranging from banking and finance to a political background. They expressed their excitement about learning new things firsthand and emphasized the program’s impact on their future in today’s interconnected world.

Encouraged by the success of the initiative, Ambassador Long expressed his delight in witnessing the participants’ enthusiasm and desire to make a difference. The program provided a platform for young Bahraini women to explore the world of diplomacy, interact with influential leaders, and gain valuable insights into the profession. It aimed to inspire and empower the next generation of female diplomats in Bahrain by providing them with unique opportunities and experiences in the field of diplomacy.

Overall, the initiative led by the British Embassy in Bahrain to celebrate International Day for Women in Diplomacy was a success, providing young Bahraini women with a valuable and insightful experience in the world of diplomacy. By offering them the opportunity to meet with influential leaders and learn about the profession firsthand, the program aimed to inspire and empower the next generation of female diplomats in Bahrain. Ambassador Long expressed his satisfaction with the participants’ enthusiasm and commitment to making a difference, highlighting the importance of initiatives like these in promoting diversity and gender equality in the field of diplomacy.
