Established in 1999, Bongiyo Samaj, Bahrain is the oldest Bengali community club in the Kingdom of Bahrain, registered under The Ministry of Social Development. Over the past two decades, the club has served as a vibrant hub for the Bengali diaspora, organizing various events and festivals that celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Bengal. From social gatherings to cultural performances, educational workshops to charitable initiatives, the club offers a range of activities designed to engage and enrich the lives of its members and the broader society.

One of the flagship events organized by Bongiyo Samaj, Bahrain is the celebration of Durga Puja, a grand festival that draws the largest participation from members, the Indian population, and well-wishers from neighboring countries. This festival, celebrated over four to five days, is a time of joy, devotion, and community spirit, showcasing the vibrant cultural traditions of Bengal in the heart of Bahrain. Bongiyo Samaj, Bahrain plays a crucial role as a cultural ambassador, preserving and promoting the essence of Bengali culture while contributing positively to the diverse fabric of Bahraini society.

As a member and President of Bongiyo Samaj, Bahrain, India’s Independence Day holds special significance, not just for celebrating freedom but for honoring the past and building a strong future. Bahrain has always felt like a home away from home for many Indians, with its welcoming people and diverse community. The strong Indian community in Bahrain is a testament to the deep-rooted bonds between the two nations, and Bahrain will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who call it home.

Living in Bahrain since 2004, Ashesh Mukhopadhyay, Director of Sales at GBM and Patron of Bongiyo Samaj, Bahrain, reflects on the enduring relationship between India and Bahrain.
