Luke Bone and Luke Willett emerged as the champions of the recent British Speedgolf Pairs Championship held at Sand Martins Golf Club in Berkshire. Speedgolf, also known as extreme golf, is a unique combination of time and strokes to achieve a Speedgolf score. The sport originated in California in 1979 and has grown in popularity worldwide, with common rules and annual championships held since 2012. The British Speedgolf Pairs Championship was played in alternate shot foursomes over a par 70 course, adding an element of teamwork to the fast-paced game.

During the championship, teams armed with up to seven clubs set off at 5-minute intervals to conquer the course and achieve the lowest Speedgolf score. The competition featured running scorers to intensify the challenge, with a mix of seasoned professionals and enthusiastic amateurs participating. The winning duo of Luke Bone and Luke Willett, known as ‘Never Settle,’ displayed dominance with a remarkable Speedgolf Score of 123:43, setting their sights on an unofficial world record for the fastest 18-hole round. They were closely followed by Adam Williams and Jack Malden, who secured the runner-up spot with a commendable performance.

Women’s pairings, including Di Stewart and Emma Johnstone, showcased their talent in the tournament, reflecting the inclusive nature of the sport. The event highlighted the diversity in participants, ranging from pros to amateurs and even featuring the inspirational presence of amputee Scott Richardson and his golf coach Daf Digby. With anticipation building for the next UK Speedgolf Championship, the solo British Open Speedgolf Championships are set to return in September 2024 at Sunningdale Heath near Ascot.

The British Speedgolf Pairs Championship witnessed a thrilling display of skill and endurance, with Luke Bone and Luke Willett emerging as the deserving champions. Their impressive Speedgolf Score of 123:43 established a new standard of performance in the sport, showcasing their relentless pursuit of excellence. As the popularity of Speedgolf continues to grow, events like the British Speedgolf Pairs Championship serve as a testament to the inclusive and diverse nature of the sport.
