The team, consisting of 37 athletes from 15 different countries, will be representing more than 100 million displaced people globally. It is the largest Refugee Olympic Team to date, highlighting the increasing number of refugees around the world.

Masomah Ali Zada, the Chef de Mission for the Refugee Olympic Team, emphasized the importance of providing support and access to refugees at all levels, including participation in the Olympic Games. During their time in Bayeux, the athletes had access to top-quality training facilities, such as an athletics track, a swimming pool, and a hall for combat sports and martial arts practice. They also participated in team-building activities, including a bike ride to the historic Arromanche beach, where the D-Day landings took place.

Following their time in Bayeux, the Refugee Olympic Team will travel to Paris to stay at the Olympic Village and continue their training for the upcoming Games. The Olympic Games Opening Ceremony is set for 26 July, with the Games running until 11 August. The Paralympic Games will then take place from 28 August to 8 September. This year’s Refugee Olympic Team is the third consecutive team to participate in the Olympics, showcasing the resilience and determination of refugee athletes from around the world.
