Bangladesh is set to begin a two-Test series in Pakistan, but their preparations have been severely impacted by the political turmoil in their home country. However, ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, a member of the now-dissolved parliament for Hasina’s party, has been granted permission to participate in the series by the interim government.
The Bangladesh team faced challenges due to the lack of practice opportunities, but they were given some reprieve when the Pakistan Cricket Board allowed them to arrive early to make up for lost preparation time. Despite the setbacks, a second-string Bangladesh team had been playing practice games in Islamabad since August 10. In addition, the team is dealing with injuries as opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy has been ruled out of the first Test, while senior batter Mushfiqur Rahim is expected to recover from a finger injury in time for the match. Bangladesh will be looking to improve their record against Pakistan, as they have only managed one draw in 13 Tests against their opponents.
