Bangladesh is set to begin a two-Test series in Pakistan, but their preparations have been severely impacted by the political turmoil in their home country. The overthrow of prime minister Sheikh Hasina led to unrest that kept the team’s foreign coaches indoors and prevented them from assembling for practice sessions. The situation was further complicated by the uncertainty surrounding the Bangladesh Cricket Board, as president Nazmul Hassan fled the country due to his association with Hasina. However, ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, a member of the now-dissolved parliament for Hasina’s party, has been granted permission to participate in the series by the interim government.

The Bangladesh team faced challenges due to the lack of practice opportunities, but they were given some reprieve when the Pakistan Cricket Board allowed them to arrive early to make up for lost preparation time. Despite the setbacks, a second-string Bangladesh team had been playing practice games in Islamabad since August 10. In addition, the team is dealing with injuries as opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy has been ruled out of the first Test, while senior batter Mushfiqur Rahim is expected to recover from a finger injury in time for the match. Bangladesh will be looking to improve their record against Pakistan, as they have only managed one draw in 13 Tests against their opponents.

The Test series between Pakistan and Bangladesh is part of the World Test Championship’s third cycle, with Pakistan currently in sixth place in the standings and Bangladesh in eighth. The second Test, initially scheduled to be held in Karachi, has been moved to Rawalpindi due to construction work at the stadium. Pakistan made some changes to their team following a 3-0 defeat in Australia earlier this year, bringing in former Aussie paceman Jason Gillespie as the Test coach and hiring Adelaide groundsman Damien Hough to improve the pitch standards. Pakistan will enter the Test with an all-pace attack after releasing their only spinner, Abrar Ahmed.

While Pakistan is confident in their preparation, Bangladesh will rely on their spin bowlers, including Shakib Al Hasan, Taijul Islam, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Pakistan captain Shan Masood acknowledged the quality of the Bangladesh team and the challenges they present. Masood hopes that Pakistan will show improvement under the new coaching staff and strive to be one of the top teams in the world. The teams for the Test series have been announced, with Pakistan led by Shan Masood and Bangladesh by Najmul Hossain Shanto. Both teams have quality players and will be looking to perform well in the upcoming matches. The Test series promises to be an exciting clash between two competitive teams.
