The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team achieved great success on the first day of the eighth Jiu-Jitsu Asian Championship, winning a total of seven medals at the Mubadala Arena, Zayed Sports City. Competing in various weight divisions, the team secured three gold, two silver, and two bronze medals in the newaza discipline, which focuses on 67 core techniques of Jiu-Jitsu self-defence in a cooperative environment.

Balqees Abdulla and Omar Alsuwaidi were among the gold medalists for the UAE National Team, expressing their pride and gratitude for their achievements. The intense level of competition at the championship brought together elite champions from across Asia, making the victories even more significant. The host nation’s success on the opening day helped them secure a spot in the overall medal ranking, with Thailand and Kazakhstan leading the table.

The championship featured various disciplines, including Duo-Classic, Show, Jiu-Jitsu Newaza, and Jiu-Jitsu Fighting, with the UAE national team participating only in the newaza discipline. The event, held under the patronage of Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will continue until May 8, with competitions for the Adults division running until Sunday and youth competitions scheduled from Monday to Wednesday.

Abdulmunem Alsayedmohamed Alhashmi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, praised the performance of the national team and highlighted their skills, discipline, perseverance, and determination. Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, and other officials were also present to witness the athletes’ remarkable achievements and technical prowess in a highly competitive atmosphere.

Vinay Kumar Joshi, National President of the Jiu-Jitsu Association of India, expressed confidence in Indian athletes’ preparation and participation across all Jiu-Jitsu disciplines. With two distinct teams competing in the adult and youth categories, comprising both male and female athletes, India anticipates strong performances and aims to secure medals, showcasing the abilities of their skilled athletes in similar events.
