As the summer temperatures soar in Bahrain, residents are seeking refuge in swimming pools, making them a popular destination for leisure and recreation. The demand for private pool bookings for special occasions like weddings, birthdays, and corporate events has significantly increased, with many reservations made well in advance. Pool owners report a surge in bookings, exceeding 90% for the current month, marking a resurgence in demand after a decline due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Jihad Radhi, owner of a pool in the Tashan area, the price of renting a pool varies depending on its size and amenities. Smaller pools cost between 30 and 50 Bahraini dinars, while medium-sized pools range from 50 to 70 dinars. On weekends, prices can escalate to 100 to 140 dinars, with larger pools and additional facilities commanding higher rates. The increasing number of swimming pools, gyms, and resorts has impacted bookings for smaller and medium-sized pools, with a majority of bookings this year coming from companies and educational institutions seeking a cool escape from the heat.

Radhi stressed the importance of pool design in ensuring safety for swimmers, highlighting the need for proper chlorine maintenance and the significance of pool size and depth in preventing drowning accidents. Meanwhile, Abdullah Al Qaidoum, owner of a pool in the Karrana area, also reported a high demand for bookings, reaching up to 90% for the months of July and August. The scorching summer temperatures in Bahrain are contributing to the increased interest in swimming pool usage.

In addition to the surge in pool bookings, a local swimming instructor mentioned a rise in demand for swimming lessons, particularly among children. Prices for lessons range from 30 to 60 dinars, depending on the duration and age group. The swimming instructor emphasized the importance of being passionate about the sport, capable of teaching basic and advanced techniques, and possessing a strong understanding of first aid and error correction to be successful in the field.

Overall, the increase in demand for swimming pools, bookings for special occasions, and swimming lessons reflects the growing popularity of swimming as a recreational activity in Bahrain. As residents seek ways to escape the summer heat, swimming pools provide a refreshing and enjoyable option for leisure and recreation. With proper maintenance, safety measures, and skilled instructors, swimming pools continue to be a sought-after destination for both relaxation and physical activity in the Kingdom.
