Beginning on July 1st, the Kingdom of Bahrain will be enforcing Resolution No. (3) of 2013, which prohibits outdoor labor under direct sunlight from 12 pm to 4 pm during the months of July and August. This measure is put in place to protect workers from the extreme heat and humidity that are prevalent during these months. The Minister of Labour, Jameel Humaidan, has called on employers to ensure compliance with this midday work ban, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing worker safety and health by adjusting work schedules to minimize disruption to productivity.

Jameel Humaidan also highlighted the significance of adhering to occupational safety principles to create a secure and efficient working environment free from accidents. Inspection teams from the Ministry will be conducting site visits to ensure that workplaces are following the midday work ban. The enforcement of this ban has, in the past, resulted in positive outcomes in terms of preserving workers’ health and safety, as well as increasing productivity. This measure aligns with Bahrain’s commitment to upholding workers’ rights and ensuring safe working conditions in line with international labor standards.

The midday work ban aims to provide a safer working environment for employees, protecting them from health risks and occupational accidents caused by exposure to extreme heat. The Ministry of Labour has taken proactive steps to prepare for the enforcement of the resolution by organizing educational workshops and distributing informative materials in different languages to raise awareness among workers about the dangers of heat stress and sun exposure. This initiative is part of Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to prioritize worker safety and well-being.

It is crucial for employers to comply with the midday work ban and make necessary adjustments to work schedules to ensure that workers are not exposed to direct sunlight during the hottest hours of the day. By prioritizing worker safety and health, businesses can not only protect their employees from heat-related illnesses but also improve productivity by creating a safer and more efficient working environment. The enforcement of this ban is a reflection of Bahrain’s commitment to promoting human rights and ensuring safe working conditions for all workers in the country.

Workers should also take precautions to protect themselves from the heat by staying hydrated, wearing appropriate clothing, and taking breaks in shaded areas during the peak hours of sunlight. By following these guidelines and being aware of the risks associated with working in high temperatures, employees can safeguard their health and well-being while performing their duties. The midday work ban serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing worker safety and health, and it is a crucial step towards creating a safer and more sustainable work environment for all workers in Bahrain.
