The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) in Bahrain has been working diligently to crack down on illegal and undocumented workers in the country. In the first half of 2024, the LMRA conducted a total of 18,192 inspections and visits across all four governorates, resulting in the identification of 1,473 individuals violating labour laws and the deportation of 2,452 foreign workers. These efforts demonstrate the authority’s commitment to enforcing labour laws and regulations, particularly those related to the Labour Market Regulatory Authority Law and the Residency Law of Bahrain.

The inspections, which took place from January to June, were carried out in the Capital Governorate, Muharraq Governorate, Northern Governorate, and Southern Governorate. The LMRA worked in collaboration with various government agencies, such as the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority. This coordinated effort shows the importance of inter-agency cooperation in combating illegal labour practices and ensuring the protection of workers in Bahrain.

The weekly reports released by the LMRA provide valuable insight into the enforcement activities of the authority and highlight the significant impact these inspections have had on the labour market. By targeting illegal and undocumented workers, the LMRA is sending a strong message that labour laws and regulations in Bahrain must be followed and enforced. The deportation of over 2,400 foreign workers demonstrates the seriousness with which the authority takes these violations and the consequences for those who do not comply with the law.

The LMRA’s efforts to conduct inspections and visits across all governorates show a comprehensive approach to addressing illegal labour practices in Bahrain. By targeting various regions within the country, the authority is able to identify and address violations in a systematic and organized manner. This holistic approach ensures that labour laws are being enforced consistently across all areas of Bahrain and that workers are protected from exploitation and abuse.

In conclusion, the LMRA’s proactive stance on enforcing labour laws and regulations in Bahrain is commendable. Through their collaborative efforts with other government agencies and their commitment to conducting inspections across all governorates, the LMRA is working to ensure that the rights of workers are protected and that illegal labour practices are eradicated. By holding violators accountable and deporting those who do not comply with the law, the LMRA is sending a clear message that Bahrain is committed to upholding labour standards and promoting a fair and just work environment for all.
