Bahrain wrapped up the three-day Bahrain International Airshow 2024 with H.E. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, highlighting the Kingdom’s evolving role in global aviation, emerging technologies, and sustainability. The Minister also announced that the next edition of the international airshow will be held from November 18-20, 2026.

In response to questions about Bahrain’s interest in advanced air mobility and electric air taxis, the Minister described it as “an exceedingly fast-developing field” with transformative potential. However, he emphasized that the practical integration of such technologies into existing infrastructure and society requires careful consideration. Bahrain continues to follow developments in this field and remains open to adopting breakthrough innovations that could redefine mobility.

This year’s airshow saw unprecedented diversity, with 226 civilian and military delegations from 59 countries and participation from 177 organizations, including top global aerospace firms. Over 125 aircraft types were showcased, a 25% increase from 2022, while the exhibition hall hosted 78 companies, 80% of which were international. Plans are underway to expand the event further in the next edition, reflecting the trust and confidence regional and national partners have in the Bahrain International Airshow.

Sustainability emerged as a key theme at the airshow, with Bahrain reiterating its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060. The event featured four specialized forums addressing industry challenges, such as policy development and new technologies to combat climate change. Initiatives like using coconut oil instead of diesel for airfield equipment and recycling efforts were praised as steps toward reducing aviation’s carbon footprint.

The airshow served as a platform for several significant agreements, including Bahrain’s National Space Science Agency signing a collaboration framework with the UAE’s Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, and the Ministry of Interior acquiring a fleet of Airbus helicopters. Bahrain’s recent FAA Category One certification was also celebrated, paving the way for Gulf Air’s direct flights to the United States by next year.

Concluding the event, the Minister expressed pride in the airshow’s growing reputation as a “boutique platform” for global aviation. The next edition, scheduled for November 18-20, 2026, aims to build on this year’s success by fostering deeper partnerships and showcasing cutting-edge advancements. Bahrain’s vision for connectivity and commitment to providing a state-of-the-art platform that brings together strategic allies and industry leaders was highlighted, thanking participants for their role in making the airshow a global success.

With its ambitious vision and continued dedication to innovation and sustainability, Bahrain is cementing its status as a key player in the international aviation and aerospace sectors. The Kingdom’s openness to adopting breakthrough innovations and its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions demonstrate its leadership in driving positive change within the industry. The next edition of the Bahrain International Airshow in 2026 is poised to further showcase Bahrain’s advancements in global aviation and strengthen partnerships within the sector.
