The Kingdom of Bahrain has achieved a significant milestone by securing a seat on the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) Governing Board, a prestigious affiliate of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This accomplishment underscores Bahrain’s growing influence in international organizations and its commitment to advancing educational development globally.

## Strengthening Global Presence through UNESCO Membership

The election took place during the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, where Dr. Shaikha Abdullah Mufeez, Director of Strategic Planning at the Ministry of Education, was officially chosen as a member of the UIS Governing Board. This achievement is a testament to the capabilities and professionalism of Bahrain’s educational sector and its national cadres, who continue to excel in regional and international forums. His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Bahrain National Commission for Education, Science and Culture, expressed great pride in this accomplishment, highlighting the continuous support extended to national talent by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Bahrain, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

## Empowering National Talent and Educational Excellence

Dr. Juma emphasized that the support from the Kingdom’s leadership has empowered Bahrain’s Ministry of Education to compete on the global stage and earn membership in one of UNESCO’s most significant bodies—the UNESCO Institute for Statistics. This success is a clear indication of the expertise and competence of Bahraini professionals in the fields of educational statistics and strategic planning. The Ministry’s efforts to enhance educational outcomes and align with international standards have been recognized globally, reflecting the Kingdom’s expanding role in supporting educational development at both regional and international levels.

## A New Era of International Cooperation and Development

The UIS plays a crucial role in providing data and statistics on education worldwide, enabling countries to make informed decisions about their educational policies and programs. With Bahrain’s membership on the UIS Governing Board, the Kingdom is poised to contribute significantly to global discussions on educational development and statistics. Dr. Mufeez’s election is not only a personal achievement but also a recognition of Bahrain’s dedication to educational excellence and its commitment to collaborating with international partners to achieve common goals.

## Regional and Global Implications

This achievement has far-reaching implications for Bahrain and the region. It demonstrates the Kingdom’s ability to compete and succeed at the international level, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation in education. Moreover, it opens up new opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing between Bahrain and other member states, potentially leading to advancements in educational policies and practices across the region.

Bahrain’s membership in the UIS Governing Board is expected to enhance its educational landscape by adopting best practices and leveraging international expertise. As the Kingdom continues to strengthen its presence in international organizations, it is likely to play an increasingly important role in shaping global educational agendas. The success of Dr. Mufeez and the Ministry of Education is a source of pride for the nation, highlighting the potential of Bahraini professionals to make a meaningful impact on the global stage.

In conclusion, Bahrain’s election to the UIS Governing Board marks a significant milestone in its journey towards becoming a leading player in international educational development. As the Kingdom continues to build on this achievement, it is poised to make lasting contributions to the global educational community, fostering a brighter future for generations to come. With its commitment to educational excellence and international cooperation, Bahrain is set to remain at the forefront of global efforts to improve education and achieve sustainable development.
