Authorities in Bahrain have placed a strong focus on combating the exploitation and extortion of children online, despite the fact that they do not consider it a widespread issue. The national initiative, Himaiyah, aims to raise awareness among children and parents regarding the potential dangers of the internet and how to stay safe while navigating it. Led by Nour Shehab, Chief of the Family and Child Prosecution, the campaign emphasizes the importance of educating children on how to identify and protect themselves from online threats. Bahrain is praised for its comprehensive legislations regarding child protection and cybercrime, offering a strong legal framework to address these issues.

The Cyberspace Child Protection Unit at the Ministry of Interior, headed by Major Engineer Fawz Mohammad, plays a key role in protecting children from blackmail and cyber exploitation. The unit works to investigate and prevent online crimes against children, taking proactive measures to ensure their safety in the digital world. Parents are encouraged to be vigilant and report any suspicious incidents to the unit, as they play a crucial role in reducing the risks that children may face online. By working together with authorities and educators, Bahrain aims to create a safer online environment for children to thrive and grow without fear of exploitation.

Fakhriya Shubbar of the Child Protection Center at the Ministry of Social Development highlights the ongoing efforts to enhance preventive measures against online threats targeting children. The center collaborates with various stakeholders to raise awareness and provide support to children and families who may be vulnerable to online exploitation. By offering resources and guidance on online safety, the center empowers children to recognize potential risks and protect themselves from harm while using the internet. Through a collective approach, Bahrain aims to strengthen its defenses against cybercrimes targeting children and ensure their well-being in the digital age.

Overall, Bahrain’s proactive stance on child protection in cyberspace demonstrates a commitment to safeguarding children from online threats and exploitation. By raising awareness, providing education, and implementing strong legal frameworks, the country sets a solid foundation for addressing these complex issues effectively. Parents are urged to play an active role in protecting their children online, while authorities continue to work towards creating a safer digital environment for all. With ongoing efforts to enhance preventive measures and collaboration among various ministries and authorities, Bahrain is well-positioned to tackle the challenges of online exploitation and ensure the well-being of its young population in the digital era.
