The Deputy Chief of Public Security, Major General Dr. Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, recently presided over the second ministerial meeting of Arab officials on disaster risk reduction at the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Egypt. During the meeting, he emphasized Bahrain’s efforts to strengthen Arab collaboration in disaster risk reduction, driven by the guidance of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and monitored by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Securing public safety remains a top priority under the vision of General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa as Minister of Interior in Bahrain. This vision addresses crime and aims to protect society from various threats, including those in cyberspace, which is increasingly being exploited for cybercrime and legal breaches. Bahrain is dedicated to disaster risk reduction in line with its goals for sustainability, security, and stability, managing risks and meeting sustainable development targets through initiatives such as the National Emergency Strategy.

Bahrain actively participates in disaster risk reduction meetings and believes in the importance of Arab integration and implementing the Arab Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction (ASDRR). This cooperation is aimed at enhancing emergency preparedness and building a strong Arab infrastructure for response, laying the groundwork for a comprehensive approach to transboundary risks that requires coordination at all stages of an emergency. The role of awareness in disaster management was also emphasized, with Bahrain using technology to improve education on emergency and disaster risks.

Various topics related to disaster risk reduction were discussed during the meeting, and the logo for the Arab Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2025 was approved. Bahrain has made significant efforts to ensure preparedness, resilience, and foster regional and international cooperation in disaster risk reduction, demonstrating its commitment to enhancing emergency preparedness and response capabilities in the region. Through initiatives such as the National Civil Protection Platform and the National Early Warning System, Bahrain aims to protect lives and property while improving the management of emergencies and disasters.

In conclusion, the ministerial meeting led by Major General Dr. Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Khalifa highlighted Bahrain’s dedication to disaster risk reduction and its role in promoting Arab collaboration in this important area. By aligning with sustainability goals, security objectives, and stability targets, Bahrain is actively working towards managing risks and meeting development targets. With a strong focus on awareness and the implementation of effective strategies, Bahrain is committed to building a resilient infrastructure to respond to disasters and emergencies, both nationally and within the Arab region.
